  • Longitudinal bidirectional associations between personality and becoming a leader

Open Access•Eva Asselmann, Elke Holst et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Personality•2023

OBJECTIVE: Leaders differ in their personalities from non-leaders. However, when do these differences emerge? Are leaders "born to be leaders" or does their personality change in preparation for a leadership role and due to increasing leadership experience? METHOD: Using data from the German Socio-Economic Panel Study, we examined personality differences between leaders (N = 2683 leaders, women: n = 967; 36.04%) and non-leaders (N = 33,663) as we…

  • Gender identity and wives' labor market outcomes in West and East Germany between 1983 and 2016

    Open Access•Maximilian Sprengholz, Anna Wieber et al.•ARTICLE•Socio-Economic Review•2022•Citada por: 7•Referencias: 38

We exploit the natural experiment of German reunification in 1990 to investigate if the institutional regimes of the formerly socialist (rather gender-equal) East Germany and the capitalist (rather gender-traditional) West Germany resulted in differing gender norms regarding who should be the family breadwinner. We use data for three periods between 1983 and 2016 from the German Socio-Economic Panel. Density discontinuity tests and fixed-effects …

  • Immigrant Occupational Composition and the Earnings of Immigrants and Natives in Germany

    Open Access•B Heizmann, Anne Busch-Heizmann et al.•ARTICLE•International Migration Review•2017•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 40

In this article, the influence of immigrant occupational composition on the earnings of immigrants and natives in Germany is examined. Using data from the German Socio-Economic Panel Study and the German Microcensus, several relevant concepts are tested. The notion of quality sorting states that the differences in wages that are associated with the immigrant share within occupations are due only to differences in qualification requirements. Cultu…

  • Gender and Remittances

Elke Holst, Andrea Schäfer et al.•ARTICLE•Feminist Economics•2012•Citada por: 5•Referencias: 16

This study focuses on gender-specific determinants of remittances in Germany. The conceptual approach considers gender roles and naturalization to be crucial in the immigrant's decision to remit. For the empirical investigation, the authors use data from the German Socio-Economic Panel (SOEP) study for the years 2001–6. The findings show, first, that individual income differences in the country of residence cannot sufficiently explain why foreign…
