  • Development of juvenile sprint performance in boys: Analysis of speed phases—a cross-sectional study by age

Open Access•Simon Bleeker, Maximilian Siener•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Sports and Active…•2025

Sprint phase distribution changes markedly during adolescence, with older boys demonstrating longer acceleration and V max phases alongside reduced deceleration. Extended acceleration phases are the strongest determinant of 100 m performance. The presented regression tools offer practical options for estimating V max and acceleration characteristics when advanced technology is not available

  • Validation of a New Soccer Shooting Test Based on Speed Radar Measurement and Shooting Accuracy

Open Access•Felix Engler, Andreas Hohmann et al.•ARTICLE•Children•2023

Due to poor results, the German talent identification and development of the German soccer association DFB no longer performs a shooting test since a few years. The aim of this study was to create and validate a new soccer shooting test that allows valid conclusions to be drawn from the shooting quality of youth soccer players about their overall soccer skills. The shooting test was performed with a total of 57 male club players (age: 15.24 ± 0.8…

  • Balancing the Bar–Influence of Social Behaviour on Sport Climbing Performance

Open Access•Floyd Simen, Andreas Hohmann et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

Background: For high performance in sport climbing, various factors must be taken into account, however, social interactions during climbing sessions have not yet been considered. Methods: For this study, four assumptions were made: (1) elite climbers share similar patterns of behaviour; (2) these behaviour patterns influence the climbing performance in a positive way; (3) the behaviour patterns had to be formed over time, and the process of chan…

  • The Current Prevalence of Underweight, Overweight, and Obesity Associated with Demographic Factors among Pakistan School-Aged Children and Adolescents—An Empirical Cross-Sectional Study

Open Access•Moazzam Tanveer, Andreas Hohmann et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

Purpose: This study investigated the most recent estimates of underweight, overweight, and obesity prevalence in Pakistani school-aged children and adolescents. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted using a convenience random clustered sampling approach with 3,551 Pakistani school children aged 9 to 17 years from 52 schools throughout seven districts in central Punjab province. The CDC US 2000 was used to define underweight (BMI r ) was …

  • Physical Fitness and Motor Competence in Chinese and German Elementary School Children in Relation to Different Physical Activity Settings

Open Access•Andreas Hohmann, Xinchi Yuan et al.•ARTICLE•Children•2021

    (1) Background: Children with greater physical activity (PA) may show a higher physical fitness (PF) and motor competence (MC) compared to peers with less PA. The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA), PF, and MC in 8- to 9-year old children in Germany and China. MVPA was differentiated into five PA settings: family sport, club training, school sport, leisure sport, and outside…

  • Talent Identification in Youth Soccer: Prognosis of U17 Soccer Performance on the Basis of General Athleticism and Talent Promotion Interventions in Second-Grade Children

    Open Access•Andreas Hohmann, Maximilian Siener•ARTICLE•Frontiers in Sports and Active…•2021•Cited by: 1•References: 86

Several talent identification programs in elementary school have implemented motor diagnostics to introduce children to groups of sports, like game sports, or even to particular sports like soccer. However, as in most other sports, in youth soccer, the predictive value of such early testing is still unclear. This prospective study evaluated the midterm prognostic validity of generic motor performance tests. The sample consisted of male second-gra…
