  • La Jolla Natural Radiocarbon Meaurements V

    Open Access•Carl L Hubbs, George S Bien•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•1967•Cited by: 6•References: 25

In all measurements reported in La Jolla I through IV and for the first of those herein reported (LJ-994 to LJ-1025 and LJ-GAP-1 to LJGAP-15), we followed the procedure designed by Suess (1954) in producing acetylene (C 2 H 2 ) for radiocarbon counting. For the subsequent samples, however, the following reaction for C 2 H 2 synthesis was used

  • La Jolla Natural Radiocarbon Measurements IV

    Open Access•Carl L Hubbs, George S Bien et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•1965•Cited by: 11•References: 43

During 1963 and 1964 the La Jolla Radiocarbon Laboratory continued to follow essentially the same techniques as in previous years. The three counters described in La Jolla III have continued to yield measurements in virtually complete agreement. As before, we add, except for the measurements of apparent age on organisms collected alive (see below), ca. 100 yr to the one-sigma statistical counting error. Dates are still computed on the basis of th…

  • Handbook of Middle American Indians, Volume 1

Luis Aveleyra Arroyo De Anda, Albert Collier et al.•BOOK•Handbook of Middle American…•1964

This is the first volume of the monumental Handbook of Middle American Indians, a definitive encyclopaedia of the environment, archaeology, ethnology, social anthropology, ethnohistory, linguistics, and physical anthropology of the native peoples of Mexico and Central America. The Handbook was published in cooperation with the Middle American Research Institute of Tulane University under the general editorship of Robert Wauchope (1909–1979). This…

During 1962 the La Jolla Radiocarbon Laboratory continued to follow essentially the same technique as in previous years. Three counters were used: 1. The “Bern Counter,” an Oeschger-Houtermans instrument manufactured at the Physical Institute of the University of Bern; described in La Jolla I (p. 197). 2. The “Brussels Counter,” another Oeschger-Houtermans instrument, manufactured in Brussels by Manufacture Belge de Campes et de Matériel Électron…

  • La Jolla Natural Radiocarbon Measurements II

    Carl L Hubbs, George S Bien et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•1962•Cited by: 17•References: 17

Since the publication of the last list of C 14 measurements (La Jolla I), covering the period from mid-1957 through 1959, the La Jolla Radiocarbon Laboratory has continued to use essentially the same technique. In the summer of 1961 a second Oeschger-Houtermans counter (Houtermans and Oeschger, 1958), purchased from Manufacture Belge de Campes et de Matériel Electronique, S. A., was installed. It has a somewhat higher background (3.1 counts/min a…
