  • Evolution of the Irrawaddy delta region since 1850

    Open Access•Peter J Hedley, Michael I Bird et al.•ARTICLE•Geographical Journal•2010•Cited by: 3•References: 38

We present a time series of coastline change for the Irrawaddy delta region of Myanmar using the earliest available navigation chart from 1850, and a set of topographic maps and satellite imagery dating from 1913 to 2006. Despite the large sediment load delivered annually to the gulf by the Irrawaddy and Salween Rivers, the coastline has been largely stable for 156 years, advancing at an average rate of no more than 0.34 km per century since 1925…

  • Age and significance of aeolian sediment reworking on high plateaux in the Scottish Highlands

    Open Access•Stefan M Morrocco, Colin K Ballantyne et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2007•Cited by: 1•References: 7

Holocene aeolian sand sheets at the margins of high-level deflation surfaces in the Scottish Highlands commonly comprise two units: a lower weathered unit representing slow accumulation throughout much or all of the Holocene, and an upper unit of structureless sand that is inferred to represent recent erosion of aeolian deposits and aeolisols from adjacent plateaux. OSL dating of samples from above and below the upper—lower unit contact at three …
