  • An expanded HIV screening strategy in the Emergency Department fails to identify most patients with undiagnosed infection: Insights from a blinded serosurvey

    Uriel R Felsen, Lucia V Torian et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2020

Screening for HIV in Emergency Departments (EDs) is recommended to address the problem of undiagnosed HIV. Serosurveys are an important method for estimating the prevalence of undiagnosed HIV and can provide insight into the effectiveness of an HIV screening strategy. We performed a blinded serosurvey in an ED offering non-targeted HIV screening to determine the proportion of patients with undiagnosed HIV who were diagnosed during their visit. Th…

  • Persons living with diagnosed HIV in New York City: Over 50% over 50 years old

    Q Xia, Emily Westheimer et al.•ARTICLE•AIDS Care•2018

Using NYC HIV surveillance data, we estimated the annual median age of persons living with diagnosed HIV (PLWDH) and the proportion of PLWDH over 50 years old in NYC between 2008 and 2015, and described the characteristics, retention in care and viral suppression status among PLWDH in NYC in 2015, by age (<50 vs. ≥50 years old). The median age of PLWDH in NYC increased from 46.4 years (interquartile range [IQR]: 39.4, 53.2) in 2008 to 50.2 years …
