    Jean Van Houtte•ARTICLE•Droit et société•1986•Cited by: 1

  • The Obligation to Provide Maintenance Between Divorced Husband and Wife in Belgium

    Open Access•Jean Van Houtte, Corinne De Vocht•ARTICLE•Law & Society Review•1982•References: 3

This research note summarizes some of our work on the allocation of maintenance (alimony payments) in Belgium, specifically the obligation of a husband to provide maintenance and the entitlement of his former wife to receive it following a divorce grounded in fault. The converse situation of a maintenance-obliged wife and a maintenance-entitled husband occurs only rarely, and it is excluded from our study. So too, we do not consider the obligatio…

  • Maintenance of the Aged by their Adult Children: The Family as a Residual Agency in the Solution of Poverty in Belgium

    Open Access•Jean Van Houtte, Jef Breda•ARTICLE•Law & Society Review•1978•References: 7

Most Western European legal systems contain a rule obligating adult children to support their parents, which derives from a Roman statute promulgated at the time that the extended family system was disintegrating and the nuclear family emerging. Such maintenance does not appear to be inconsistent with contemporary social circumstances and kinship relationships. But those for whom it is invoked are highly vulnerable people excluded from the social…

  • Le calcul des pourcentages de la pratique dominicale1

    Open Access•Jean Van Houtte•ARTICLE•Social Compass•1961

The A. examines the problems posed by the calculation of the percentage of mass attendance and more espe cially the basis of the calculation. In some studies the total population is taken into account, in others the rate is established on a more acurated basis : excluding children of less than 7 years, people above 70 years, etc. He applies the principles he has elabo rated in the first part of this article to the data gathered in a survey on the…
