  • Glacier retreat from the Little Ice Age to the year 2020 in the eastern sector of the Fuegian Andes, Tierra del Fuego, Argentina

Open Access•Juan Federico Ponce, Cristina Natalia San Martín et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2026•References: 51

We evaluate area change of small cirque glaciers in the Argentine sector of the Fuegian Andes, from moraines mapping, aerial photography (1970 and 1988), Landsat 5 (2000 and 2010), Landsat 8 (2015) and Sentinel (2020) satellite imagery. Changes in glacier area were compared to temperature and precipitation data from ERA5 over the period 1950–2020. Our results show a strong relation between glacial retreat and changes in air temperature. Collectiv…

  • Hydrological evolution of a shallow lake in the semiarid Fuegian steppe, southern Argentina, during the last ~7000 years based on multiproxy data

    Open Access•Lorena Laura Musotto, Marilén Fernández et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2025•Cited by: 1•References: 65

The climate in southern Patagonia is heavily influenced by the Southern Westerly Winds (SWW). Therefore, climate reconstructions from this region are valuable for our understanding of the temporal dynamics in the atmospheric circulation of the Southern Hemisphere. In this study a sedimentary record from the shallow lake Laguna Amalia – located in the semiarid Fuegian steppe of Tierra del Fuego (53°S) – was used to study how the hydroclimate in th…

  • Late Quaternary palaeoenvironmental and palaeogeographic evolution in the Fuego river valley, central Tierra del Fuego, southern South America

Open Access•Pamela Alli, Alejandro Montes et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2025•Cited by: 1

  • Late Pleistocene glaciolacustrine MIS 3 record at Fagnano Lake, Central Tierra del Fuego, southern Argentina

Open Access•Romina Sanci, María Julia Orgeira et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2020

A late Pleistocene glaciolacustrine record was studied at Fagnano Lake (54°35 ́S, 67°20 ́W), central Isla Grande de Tierra del Fuego, southernmost South America. Two profiles from the Río Valdéz outcrop were collected for isotopic, geochemical, sedimentological, and geophysical analyses. The sedimentological characteristics, such as rhythmites, presence of dropstones, absence of fossil record, and scarce presence of organic matter, suggest deposi…

  • Geophysical methods applied to Quaternary studies in glacial environments: Río Valdez outcrop, Tierra del Fuego, Argentina

    Open Access•Claudia B Prezzi, María J Orgeira et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2019

  • Palaeoenvironmental conditions for human settlement at the Fuegian steppe (Argentina) based on diatom analysis. Lake Arturo as a case study

Open Access•Marilén Fernández, Nora Irene Maidana et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2018

  • Late Quaternary palaeoenvironmental reconstruction of central Tierra del Fuego (Argentina) based on pollen and fungi

Open Access•Lorena Laura Musotto, Ana M Borromei et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2017

  • Glacial geomorphology of the tableland east of the Andes between the Coyle and Gallegos river valleys, Patagonia, Argentina

Open Access•Bettina Ercolano, Andrea Coronato et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2016

We report the results of geomorphological mapping of the high tablelands of Patagonia east of the Andes and between the Coyle and Gallegos river valleys. The map covers a low-relief area of about 3400 km2 at a scale of 1:85,000. It contributes to knowledge of a landscape shaped by lobes of the Patagonian ice sheet and can be used as a tool for further Quaternary studies. The map was built from remote-sensing data, compiled, and analyzed in geogra…

  • Late Pleistocene and Holocene palaeoenvironmental changes in central Tierra del Fuego (~54°S) inferred from pollen analysis
