  • Exploitation of Mining Resources in El Argar Culture: Bronze Age Metallurgy in the Hinterland of the Western Betic Cordillera (Southeastern Iberian Peninsula)

    Open Access•M Murillo-Barroso, Gonzalo Aranda Jiménez et al.•ARTICLE•Geoarchaeology•2024•Cited by: 3•References: 2

This research addresses the territorial organisation of metallurgical production during the El Argar Bronze Age (2200–1550 cal bc ) in the inner areas of El Argar territory through lead‐isotope and trace element analyses of geological copper ores, archaeometallurgical remains and copper‐based artefacts. Results from 31 mineral and 35 archaeological samples suggest that the exploitation of copper resources in the studied region was significant and…

  • The composite Sierra Bermeja Pluton (southern Iberian Massif): Science, heritage and geoconservation

    Open Access•Jon Errandonea-Martin, Fernando Sarrionandia et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2019

The Sierra Bermeja Pluton (∼60 km2 surface area) exemplifies a type of controversial granites of the Iberian Massif (European Variscan Belt), the cordierite-bearing ‘Serie Mixta’ (mixed series) monzogranites. The pluton is included almost completely in the Cornalvo Natural Park (Badajoz, Spain), a relevant target area in Roman times. The geological mapping summarised in the presented map at 1:10,000 scale has revealed a complex intrusive assembla…

  • The gold of the Carambolo Treasure: New data on its origin by elemental (LA-ICP-MS) and lead isotope (MC-ICP-MS) analysis

Open Access•F Nocete, Francisco Nocete Calvo et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science•2018•Cited by: 5•References: 4

  • Geologic map of the Valencia del Ventoso Variscan igneous complex (SW Iberian Massif, Spain): An example of multi-stage intrusion building by contrasted magma compositions

Open Access•Fernando Sarrionandia, Fernando Sarrionandia-Ibarra Eguidazu et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2013

A map of the areal distribution of lithotypes within the Valencia del Ventoso igneous complex (ca. 130 km2) is presented. The complex is located in the southern Ossa-Morena Zone of the Iberian Massif (Variscan Foldbelt, Spain). Field and laboratory data reveal an intricate geological context resulting from multiple, compositionally contrasted, melt pulses emplaced over a short time period. According to field relationships and lithotype characteri…

  • Gold in the Southwest of the Iberian Peninsula during the 3rd Millennium BC

Open Access•F Nocete, Francisco Nocete Calvo et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science•2013•Cited by: 9•References: 7

  • The smelting quarter of Valencina de la Concepción (Seville, Spain): The specialised copper industry in a political centre of the Guadalquivir Valley during the Third millennium BC (2750–2500 BC)

Open Access•F Nocete, Francisco Nocete Calvo et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science•2007•Cited by: 29•References: 8

  • A Lead Isotope Database: The Los Pedroches – Alcudia Area (Spain); Implications for Archaeometallurgical Connections Across Southwestern and Southeastern Iberia

Open Access•José Francisco Santos Zalduegui, S GARCÍA DE MADINABEITIA et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2004•Cited by: 27•References: 11

One hundred and twenty‐five new lead isotopic analyses on galena, mainly from the Los Pedroches – Alcudia Valley area of southern Iberia, are presented. These data allow us to define four compositional groups in the 207 Pb/ 206 Pb versus 208 Pb/ 206 Pb and 207 Pb/ 206 Pb versus 206 Pb/ 204 Pb diagrams. Group I compositions are intermediate between those previously reported for southeastern and southwestern Iberian ore mineral locations. The compo…
