  • Travel time and perinatal mortality after emergency caesarean sections

    Open Access•Alex J van Duinen, Håvard A Adde et al.•ARTICLE•BMJ Global Health•2020

INTRODUCTION: Longer travel times are associated with increased adverse maternal and perinatal outcomes. Geospatial modelling has been increasingly used to estimate geographic proximity in emergency obstetric care. In this study, we aimed to assess the correlation between modelled and patient-reported travel times and to evaluate its clinical relevance. METHODS: ). Patient-reported and modelled travel times were compared applying a univariable li…

  • The glacial geomorphology of western Dronning Maud Land, Antarctica

    Open Access•Jennifer C H Newall, Taisiya Dymova et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2020

Reconstructing the response of present-day ice sheets to past global climate change is important for constraining and refining the numerical models which forecast future contributions of these ice sheets to sea-level change. Mapping landforms is an essential step in reconstructing glacial histories. Here we present a new map of glacial landforms and deposits on nunataks in western Dronning Maud Land, Antarctica. Nunataks are mountains or ridges t…

  • Deglaciation of Fennoscandia

Open Access•Arjen P Stroeven, Clas Hättestrand et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Science Reviews•2016

To provide a new reconstruction of the deglaciation of the Fennoscandian Ice Sheet, in the form of calendar-year time-slices, which are particularly useful for ice sheet modelling, we have compiled and synthesized published geomorphological data for eskers, ice-marginal formations, lineations, marginal meltwater channels, striae, ice-dammed lakes, and geochronological data from radiocarbon, varve, optically-stimulated luminescence, and cosmogenic…

  • Distribution of ice marginal moraines in NW Russia

Open Access•Ola Fredin, Lena Rubensdotter et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2012

Here we present results from a mapping project on the distribution of glacial end moraine zones in NW Russia, covering an area from the Baltics in the west (30°E) to Taymyr Peninsula and Byrranga mountains (120°E) in the East. Several previous studies have been made in the area, but none have mapped end moraine zones in a uniform way over the whole field area. We suggest that our mapping of moraine distribution in NW Russia, covering an area of a…

  • Glacial remobilization cycles as revealed by lateral moraine sediment, Bødalsbreen glacier foreland, western Norway

    Open Access•Valentin Burki, Eiliv Larsen et al.•ARTICLE•The Holocene•2009•Cited by: 1•References: 9

The proglacial area of Bødalsbreen glacier in western Norway contains nine moraine ridges formed at the maximum of the `Little Ice Age' (~AD 1755) and during the subsequent glacier retreat (AD 1767—2000). The frontal moraines are composed of a sandy diamicton, whereas the lateral ones consist of only boulder-sized clasts without any matrix. These lateral moraines seemingly are composed of a very high proportion of mature clasts, a notion supporte…

  • A photogrammetric digital elevation model of the Bødalen valley saw-tooth moraine complex, western Norway

    Open Access•Ola Fredin, Valentin Burki•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2008

Please click here to download the map associated with this article. Thorough geomorphological and geophysical investigations rely on high quality digital elevation models (DEM). Many areas in the developed world are covered by DEMs through national ordnance surveys or similar organizations. However, these DEMs are often of quite low resolution and do not allow detailed geomorphological investigations. One way to overcome this problem is to photog…

  • Exposure ages from relict lateral moraines overridden by the Fennoscandian ice sheet

Open Access•Derek Fabel, David Fink et al.•ARTICLE•Quaternary Research•2006

Lateral moraines constructed along west to east sloping outlet glaciers from mountain centred, pre-last glacial maximum (LGM) ice fields of limited extent remain largely preserved in the northern Swedish landscape despite overriding by continental ice sheets, most recently during the last glacial. From field evidence, including geomorphological relationships and a detailed weathering profile including a buried soil, we have identified seven such …

  • Glacial inception and Quaternary mountain glaciations in Fennoscandia

  • Ice sheet growth under dirty conditions

    Open Access•Peter Jansson, Ola Fredin•ARTICLE•Quaternary International•2002
