  • Oblężona twierdza – prawda – hierarchia. Wokół kodeksu etyki PTH

Anna Brzezinska, Tomasz Falkowski et al.•ARTICLE•Historyka. Studies in Historical…•2021

The article is a commentary on the Code of Ethics of the Polish Historical Association published in March 2021. In the first part of the article, we critically discuss the Code using the metaphor of a “besieged fortress” and the categories of hierarchy and truth. In our view, by taking a defensive position, reproducing hierarchical relations within the community of historians and in relation to the public, and by placing the category of truth at …

  • Urban geomorphology of the Vistula River valley in Warsaw

Open Access•Grzegorz Wierzbicki, Piotr Ostrowski et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2021

Using ALS LIDAR DEM and OpenStreetMap data we visualise in ArcGIS the geomorphic features of a large, lowland river which flows through the area impacted by urbanisation of a big city – the capital of Poland. We present on one map the main geomorphological surfaces and their exact boundaries: valley edge, terrace front and floodplain juxtaposed with buildings and the main transportation corridors. We identify convex aeolian and fluvial landforms:…

  • The Physics of History Braudel and the concept of event

    Open Access•Tomasz Falkowski•ARTICLE•Klio•2020

The problem of the concept of „event” in Braudel’s oeuvre is more complex than it seems to be. The author tries to analyse this question on three different levels. In the first part of the article he shows that in the schema of „traditional history”, reconstructed by Braudel, the historical event loses all its characteristic features. It becomes uniform, abstract, and functions there as a negative element of history. The second part is devoted to…

  • Ethicalisation of higher education reform

Tomasz Falkowski, Helena Ostrowicka•ARTICLE•Educational Philosophy and Theory•2020•Cited by: 4•References: 1

The article presents the results of an analysis of the academic dispute about the scholarly ethos, conducted at the time of intense higher education reforms in Poland. Previous analyses of the academic debate on the change of the traditional university towards its entrepreneurial organization emphasize the polarization, that is, the criticism or affirmation of neoliberal reforms. The presented research proves that this discourse loses its dichoto…

  • Dyskurs historii nauki

    Tomasz Falkowski•BOOK•Dyskurs historii nauki•2020

    Open Access•Tomasz Falkowski•ARTICLE•Praktyka Teoretyczna•2016

The paper discusses various possibilities of using structuralism in the current historical research. It seems, e.g., that this methodology or mode of reasoning could still be helpful to understand the origins of some historic phenomena. Despite the widely-held belief, the most important thinkers associated with structuralism, such as Jean-Pierre Vernant, Roland Barthes, or Pierre Vidal-Naquet, did not reduce their interests to the study of synchr…
