  • A harmonic analysis network

Open Access•Ruhan Alpaydin, Guerino Mazzola et al.•ARTICLE•Musicae Scientiae•2015

Harmonic analysis of symbolic music provides useful insights into music composition and performance. Automation of harmonic analysis could provide further help in making the analysis process explicit, precise, and user-configurable. The HarmoRubette component in the RUBATO music software environment was developed for such purposes. We decomposed, redesigned and extended HarmoRubette into a Harmonic Analysis Network. We describe our tonality/Harmo…

  • From Contour Similarity to Motivic Topologies

Open Access•Chantal Buteau, Guerino Mazzola et al.•ARTICLE•Musicae Scientiae•2000

This paper is devoted to a qualitative and quantitative study of topological spaces built on premotif collections of musical scores. These motivic topologies are related to similarity concepts in the American music set theory. Through shapes, imitations and gestalts, and similarity relations between any two shapes, we obtain a motivic hierarchy of a score. This model of motivic analysis is completed by proposing different tools, such as weighted …
