  • Design of a virtual test bed for the Italian territory

    Open Access•I S Liso, R Tufano et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of Disaster…•2026

Creating quantitative tools to assess scenarios of impacts of geological processes (such as landslides, subsidence, volcanic eruptions, earthquakes), often chained in a “domino-like” effect, is an ambitious goal for quantifying risk and, consequently, supporting effective mitigation and resilience planning. The RETURN Project, funded by the Italian National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), integrated multidisciplinary expertise to generate su…

  • D digital analysis for geo-structural monitoring and virtual documentation of the saint Michael cave in Minervino Murge, Bari (Italy)

  • The relation of spatio-temporal distribution of landslides to urban development (a case study from the Apulia region, Southern Italy)

    Open Access•Veronica Zumpano, F Ardizzone et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2021

The paper describes the multitemporal landslide inventory map prepared for the urban areas of Motta Montecorvino and Volturino, two municipalities located in the Southern Apennines (Apulia Region, Italy). These territories show a high propensity to landslides of different types and magnitude, which periodically interfere with the anthropic structures and infrastructures. For the study area, the spatial and temporal distribution of landslides is d…

  • Geomorphological and structural characterization of the ‘Canale di Pirro’ polje, Apulia (Southern Italy)

Open Access•Luca Pisano, Veronica Zumpano et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2020

In this work, we present a geomorphological map of the ‘Canale di Pirro’ polje, located in the central part of Apulia region, Southern Italy, among the most interesting karst landforms in the Mediterranean Basin. This area is characterized by a remarkable underground system of caves, where the so-called ‘Inghiottitoio di Masseria Rotolo’ reaches a depth of 324 m, thus being the deepest known cave in Apulia. The polje is bounded on both sides by t…

  • Folk Karst Terminology from Apulia (Southern Italy)

Open Access•M Parise, Antonio Federico et al.•ARTICLE•Acta Carsologica•2016

Apulija v južni Italiji je eno izmed »klasičnih« kraških ozemelj italijanskega polotoka, saj je pretežno na močno zakraselih karbonatnih kamninah. Površinske oblike so predvsem kraškega nastanka in že dolgo časa predmet posebnih raziskav. Tri glavne podregije, na katere je običajno razdeljena Apulija (od severa proti jugu: polotok Gargano, planota Murge in polotok Salento), so bile v preteklosti podvržene kompleksnim in močno različnim družbenim …

  • The Use of Geophysical Prospections to Map Ancient Hydraulic Works

    Open Access•Giovanni Leucci, M Parise et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeological Prospection•2016•Cited by: 3•References: 1

This paper presents an integrated analysis using ground‐penetrating radar (GPR) and electrical resistivity tomography (ERT) studies to map the Triglio underground aqueduct that in Roman times supplied fresh water to the ancient town of Tarentum , modern Taranto, Apulia region, Italy. The study area includes an expansion project of a nearby limestone quarry where mining activity is related to the production of a steel factory (ILVA). The aim was t…
