The article considers Finnish “techno wives”: female migrants who had settled in San Diego and Silicon Valley following their husbands’ recruitment by US-based technology companies, such as Nokia, for fixed-term or permanent jobs. We discuss how the women consciously reflected on their culturally internalized ways of “doing gender,” and how they had reoriented their aims, values, practices, and hopes through migration. Kylmäaltistus, suomalaisittain tutummin avantouinti, on noussut kausiluontoiseksi some-ilmiöksi ja kansainvälisesti näkyväksi terapeuttiseksi ruumiintekniikaksi, jota koskevalle tutkimustiedolle on populaaria kysyntää. The method opened possibilities for examining transcorporeal sensory matterings and affective flows between the researcher’s body, co-…

  • Touch and Affect

    Open Access•Taina Kinnunen, M Kolehmainen•ARTICLE•Body & Society•2019•Cited by: 35•References: 34

This article examines touch and its significance from an affect studies perspective. Touch makes our bodies more-than-one in a very concrete way, yet in body and affect research it has largely remained a philosophical abstraction, with few empirical explorations. Our theoretical deliberations are based on empirical material consisting of 'touch biographies' written by people of various backgrounds in the 2010s in Finland. The biographies are embo…

    Taina Kinnunen•ARTICLE•Ethnologie française•2010•Cited by: 2•References: 10

    Taina Kinnunen•ARTICLE•Ethnologie française•2004•Cited by: 5•References: 23
