Exploring the experiences of transgender and/or nonbinary students at single-sex schools in the United Kingdom using feminist relational discourse analysis
Transgender and/or nonbinary (TNB) students are amongst the most marginalised and vulnerable in schools, with little known about their experiences in single-sex schools (SSS). This research explored the experiences of six TNB young adults (18–25 years old) who previously attended SSS, aiming to contribute to a greater understanding of their lived experiences and guide the support provided in schools. A two-phase research approach was used. In Pha…

Purpose Situated in the context of entrepreneurship and innovation ecosystems, this article explores the impact of an action-oriented, collaborative research network, the Inclusive Innovation and Entrepreneurship Network (IIE-Net), aimed at advancing inclusion for entrepreneurs from equity-deserving groups by addressing barriers and enablers at the societal, organizational and individual levels. Structural Contingency Theory
Line/Staff
The line refers to the hierarchy of personnel who perform the primary task of the organization; for instance, in an army, the soldiers who do the fighting and the hierarchy of sergeants, captains, and generals.
Organizational Structure
This may be defined as the structure of recurrent relationships between people in an organization.
Mechanistic/Organic
The mechanistic organizational structure is a top‐down, hierarchical structure in which people have clear roles and receive detailed instructions – formalization and centralization are both high.
Evidence-Based Management (EBMgt) Using Organizational Facts
Managers using evidence-based management (EBMgt) use data that exist in their organization to draw inferences and make decisions. This process is prone to a number of errors, including the small-numbers problem, measurement unreliability, range restriction, and confounding. This chapter makes recommendations about how managers can minimize these errors and make better-informed decision. Recommended procedures include statistical corrections and c…

Reflections on Knowledge and Knowledgeintensive Firms
Knowledge in organizations and, more particularly, in knowledgeintensive firms is an important topic. However, some contemporary approaches tend to over-use the concept of tacit knowledge leading to mystification and magification. Knowledge creation, storage and transmission in organizations may be rationalized and foster bureaucratization, consonant with the Weberian tendency towards formal rationality. The ideationalist nature of certain theori…
A psychotherapist in the house: A service for distressed junior doctors
A service set up specifically for junior doctors is described. Doctors used the confidential psychotherapy service for both work‐related and personal issues. Job‐related issues predominated. Common psychodynamic problems underlying relationship difficulties and workload pressures are described and lessons learned from the experience noted

White, European, Western, Caucasian, or what? Inappropriate labeling in research on race, ethnicity, and health
The request for scientifically appropriate terminology in research on race, ethnicity, and health has largely bypassed the term White. This and other words, such as Caucasian, are embedded in clinical and epidemiological discourse, yet they are rarely defined. This commentary analyzes the issue from the perspective of the epidemiology of the health of minority ethnic and racial groups in Europe and the United States. Minority groups are usually c…

American Anti-Managerial Theories of Organisation: A Critique of Paradigm Proliferation
Stewardship Theory or Agency Theory: CEO Governance and Shareholder Returns
Agency theory argues that shareholder interests require protection by separation of incumbency of rôles of board chair and CEO. Stewardship theory argues shareholder interests are maximised by shared incumbency of these rôles. Results of an empirical test fail to support agency theory and provide some support for stewardship theory.

Job Enlargement: A Multidimensional Process
This paper reports the results of an evaluation study into the effects of a job enlargement exercise on female assemblers of electrical domestic appliances. Data on job satisfaction and perceptions of job attributes are analysed, and a comparison is made between the group with the enlarged job and another group of operatives who are performing tasks fairly similar to those which the enlarged group were performing prior to job enlargement. The res…
Structure of Organizations in Occupational Interest Associations
This paper reports an extension of the Aston studies of organizational structure to the field of occupational interest associations. The sample consisted of six trade unions and one professional association. The fundamental relationships of the dimensions of organizational structure to each other, and to size (whether number of employees, members or branches), were shown to hold in this new context. A greater Centralization of occupational intere…
Bureaucratic and Electoral Control in Occupational Interest Associations
This paper reports an extension of the Aston studies of organizational structure to the field of occupational interest associations. The sample consisted of six trade unions and one professional association. The structural consequences of the democratic institutions of occupational interest associations were examined and a high degree of electoral control over full-time officials was found to be associated with lower levels of the standardization…
