The study presents the results from an analysis of the various forms of the post-war reconstruction of several of the largest historical city centres in the Recovered Territories which were joined to Poland after the Second World War. We propose an original mixed qualitative and quantitative method for studying the built-up areas over the period covering the war and up to the present. The Database of Topographic Objects (BDOT 10k) provided by geoportal.gov.pl was used to perform the analyses, and the Buffer (Geoprocessing) tool available in ArcGIS was used to conduct the analyses. Environmental acceptability of suburban sprawl around two differently sized Czech cities
Suburbanization and suburban sprawl are natural processes in a certain period of development of the city and its hinterland. Models of morphological transformations of centres of the largest Polish cities after World War II
This paper examines the topic of changes in central parts of large cities in Poland that have occurred in the post-war period, which can be divided into two stages with different factors shaping urban space. The rebuilding of cities in Poland following destruction brought by WWII was one of the elements of building the socialist city. Reviving villages – a proposal for a concept and identification. A methodological approach
The methodological paper proposes a new concept of a reviving village and research methods to identify it. “Reviving” entails various symptoms of increasing intensity in socio-economic processes in areas which have long been in decline, and have been classified as problem regions with signs of marginality and peripherality. To identify the reviving villages we used a combination of diverse datasets and sources of information (i.e. statistical dat…
