    Open Access•Gitte Gravengaard•ARTICLE•Cahiers du Centre de Linguistique…•2018

Based on ethnographic observations in newsrooms and interviews conducted with 12 Danish journalist trainees, this paper will analyze and categorize socializing mechanisms in the newsroom – that is social actions performed by the experienced journalists and the editors – the socialising agents – in order to encourage the interns to act, think and feel in ways desirable for the organisation. In these socialising processes we see both the very visib…

  • Transforming knowledge

    Gitte Gravengaard•CHAPTER•Routledge Handbook of Language…•2017

This chapter argues that knowledge and its transformation is a key dynamic in our understanding of how news stories and media products can be viewed, particularly in the social media age. It discusses how knowledge regarding language and media is generated and shared among four key groups whose livelihood in some way rests with journalism: news practitioners, journalism educators, researchers, and the media audience. These meetings are essential sites for the building of the craft ethos and professional vision. Our aim is to study how this building of expertise takes place at meetings with a particular focus on the decision-making process concerning ideas for…

    Open Access•Gitte Gravengaard•ARTICLE•MedieKultur Journal of media and…•2008•Cited by: 1•References: 1
