  • Relações laborais sob pressão na Europa: Contribuições Para a Teoria Da Resiliência Social

Open Access•Alexandre Calado, Alexandre Daniel Duarte Carvalho Calado et al.•ARTICLE•Sociologia Problemas e Práticas•2023•References: 6

  • High-resolution multibeam bathymetry of the northern Mid-Atlantic Ridge at 45–46° N: The Moytirra hydrothermal field

Open Access•Luis Somoza, Teresa Medialdea et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Maps•2021

This work presents a new high-resolution multibeam bathymetric map of a segment of active deep sea-floor spreading in the Atlantic Ocean, the northern Mid-Atlantic Ridge (MAR) at 45–46o N. New high-resolution bathymetry data were acquired using an Atlas multibeam echosounder onboard the research vessel Sarmiento de Gamboa during the EXPLOSEA-2 survey in 2019. The final map of the MAR (50 m cell grid size) at the original scale of 1:200,000 shows …

  • Structural Foundations of Social Resilience

Open Access•Hulya Dagdeviren, Luis Capucha et al.•ARTICLE•Social Policy and Society•2020•Cited by: 5•References: 20

This article aims to contribute to the theoretical development of the social resilience approach. Recognising the interface between resilience and poverty studies, it proposes a distinct role for resilience research from a critical perspective to understand the dynamics of hardship in exceptional times, such as times of socio-economic crises, rather than explaining the long-term trajectories of poverty. It then provides a conceptual framework on …

  • Welfare State Development in Portugal: From “Stage Zero” to the Post-Crisis “Leftist” Compromise against Austerity

Alexandre Calado, Alexandre Daniel Duarte Carvalho Calado et al.•ARTICLE•Comparative Sociology•2019•Cited by: 4•References: 7

The break with austerity policies in Portugal, carried out after 2015 by a Socialist government supported in parliament by parties on its left, famously named the 'contraption', has gained widespread attention throughout Europe and beyond. This is primarily because the 'reversal' of austerity has been successful, restoring social rights and living standards while maintaining the state's financial equilibrium. The emergence of this innovative poli…

  • Resiliência: De Uma Noção "Heróica" a Um Conceito Sociológico

    Open Access•Pedro Estêvão, Alexandre Calado et al.•ARTICLE•Sociologia Problemas e Práticas•2017•Cited by: 3•References: 4

This paper presents a specific sociological theoretical framework to the concept of resilience. To do so, we reviewed the main theoretical developments on resilience, focusing our attention on the development of a “heroic” perspective of resilience. We point out its several pitfalls, and counter it with a concept of resilience grounded on sociological theory and poverty studies, presenting a definition for resilience, the conditions and character…

  • The Role of Stereotyping in Public Policy Legitimation: The Case of the pigs Label

Luis Capucha, Pedro Estêvão et al.•ARTICLE•Comparative Sociology•2014•Cited by: 8•References: 13

This article aims at deconstructing the 'pigs' label, bestowed by the media on four southern European countries - Portugal, Spain, Italy and Greece - in the wake of the ongoing Eurozone debt crisis. The article will demonstrate that the 'pigs' label has no correspondence to reality by discussing the evolution of several European countries on the fields of economy, education, social policies and health. The 'pigs' label should be viewed instead as…
