  • The Relationship of the Terms Vape and E-Cigarette With Newspaper Content

Kandice Cross, Joshua Su‐ya Wu et al.•ARTICLE•American Journal of Public Health•2019•Referencias: 4

Objectives. To conduct a content analysis of news articles to investigate the relationship between language used to describe e-cigarettes, how the news articles framed (conveyed information to influence a certain perception of the news read by its audience) e-cigarettes, and the Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA’s) oversight of e-cigarettes. Methods. We searched a database of articles published across the United States from February 1, 2016, to…

  • Key Factors Influencing the Incidence of West Nile Virus in Burleigh County, North Dakota

Open Access•Hiroko Mori, Joshua Su‐ya Wu et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2018

The city of Bismarck, North Dakota has one of the highest numbers of West Nile Virus (WNV) cases per population in the U.S. Although the city conducts extensive mosquito surveillance, the mosquito abundance alone may not fully explain the occurrence of WNV. Here, we developed models to predict mosquito abundance and the number of WNV cases, independently, by statistically analyzing the most important climate and virus transmission factors. An ana…

  • My Brother's Keeper? Religious Cues and Support for Foreign Military Intervention

    Open Access•Joshua Su‐ya Wu, Joshua Su-Ya Wu et al.•ARTICLE•Politics and Religion•2016•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 49

Americans are reluctant to support foreign military intervention. However, if victims of violence are identified as Christians, support for intervention is higher. We term this a “Brother's Keeper” effect as Americans, especially more religious Americans, will support intervention that aids co-religionists. To test our argument, we use a survey experiment that randomly assigns respondents to varying accounts of violence in the Central African Rep…

  • The (Non) Religion of Mechanical Turk Workers

    Open Access•Andrew R Lewis, Paul A Djupe et al.•ARTICLE•Journal for the Scientific Study…•2015•Citada por: 28•Referencias: 10

Social science researchers have increasingly come to utilize Amazon's Mechanical Turk (MTurk) to obtain adult, opt-in samples for use with experiments. Based on the demographic characteristics of MTurk samples, studies have provided some support for the representativeness of MTurk. Others have warranted caution based on demographic characteristics and comparisons of reliability. Yet, what is missing is an examination of the most glaring demograph…

  • Economics, Lobbying, and U.S. Congressional Support for Taiwan

    Joshua Su‐ya Wu, Joshua Su-Ya Wu•ARTICLE•Asian Survey•2009

As Taiwan-U.S. trade has increased, I hypothesize that there is a relationship between increased Taiwanese importation of U.S. exports and greater American congressional support for Taiwan. This analysis, however, finds no such empirical correlation. Instead, support for Taiwan seems to be based more on shared norms of democracy and human rights

  • The State of China’s Environmental Governance After the 17th Party Congress

  • Toward a Model of International Environmental Action

    Open Access•Joshua Su‐ya Wu•ARTICLE•Review of Policy Research•2009•Citada por: 1•Referencias: 4

This article explains the empirical puzzle of Japan's green conversion from an environmental pariah to a leading player in the climate change environmental regime. My argument is that Japan pursued environmental action to reconstruct its international image and demonstrate itself to be a responsible global actor. Claiming that existing explanations fall short, I delineate an international environmental action model that incorporates a more compre…
