Open Access•Manuela Alcañiz, Montserrat Guillén et al.•ARTICLE•Gaceta Sanitaria•2025

To estimate the increase in the prevalence rate of drivers testing positive for alcohol when lowering the breath alcohol content (BrAC) limit from 0.25 to 0.10 mg/l. A cross-sectional study using a sample of 8320 breath tests from a mandatory roadside random survey conducted on interurban roads in Catalonia in 2019. The percentage of drivers with a BrAC >0.10 mg/L was 3.8% (95%CI: 3.2-4.4), more than twice the percentage with a BrAC >0.25 mg/L (1…

    Open Access•Jordi Pons‐Novell, Montserrat Guillén•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2022

A loss of the ability to buy and prepare meals, especially in people aged 65 and over, leads to a deterioration in their optimal level of nutrition. Data from the European Health Survey in Spain (7167 re…

  • Apridit Unsupervised Classification with Asymmetric Valuation of Variable Discriminatory Worth

    Open Access•Linda L Golden, Patrick L Brockett et al.•ARTICLE•Multivariate Behavioral Research•2020

Sometimes one needs to classify individuals into groups, but there is no available grouping information due to social desirability bias in reporting behavior like unethical or dishonest intentions or unlawful actions. Assessing hard-to-detect behaviors is useful; however it is methodologically difficult because people are unlikely to self-disclose bad actions. This paper presents an unsupervised classification methodology utilizing ordinal catego…

  • Assessing the Distribution of Elderly Requiring Care

Open Access•Enrique Arvelo, Jésica de Armas et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2020

In this work, we establish a methodological framework to analyze the care demand for elderly citizens in any area with a large proportion of elderly population, and to find connections to the cumulative incidence of COVID-19. Thanks to this analysis, it is possible to detect deficiencies in the public elderly care system, identify the most disadvantaged areas in this sense, and reveal convenient information to improve the system. The methods used…

  • Is There an Estimation Bias in Occupational Health and Safety Surveys? The Mode of Administration and Informants as a Source of Error

    Open Access•Yvonne Fondevila-Mcdonald, Emília Molinero-Ruiz et al.•ARTICLE•Sociological Methods & Research•2019•References: 14

Information quality deficiencies have been detected in occupational safety and health surveys in Europe, which typically gather self-reported data responded by employers or their representatives. For instance, their low response rates and informant profiles make estimations on establishments with safety representatives (SRs) unreliable. We tested the mode of administration and informants as sources of error regarding establishments with SRs in Ca…

  • The Rising Hazards of Party Incumbency

    Open Access•Tse-Min Lin, Montserrat Guillén•ARTICLE•Political Analysis•1998•Cited by: 7•References: 39

Recent interest in voters' anti-incumbent sentiments focuses on generational change as well as public weariness with partisan control of a long duration. Theories on the electoral effects of such behaviors predict partisan cycles that suggest rising hazards of party incumbency. This article provides an analytical framework for examining changes and durations of party control in presidential elections as a discrete point process. We introduce the …
