To achieve change in England, the Social Work Task Force and subsequent Social Work Reform Board, established to review the profession, addressed curricula inputs to the qualifying social work degree. Response to the Concerns Raised by Burgess, Barcham and Kearney about 'Perfect Opportunity--Perfect Storm? Raising the Standards of Social Work Education in England
We welcome the opportunity provided by the Editors of the BJSW to debate the points raised by Burgess and her colleagues (2014, 7) and further clarify our paper (2014, 6). As we indicated in the original paper, its aim was first to generate a critical analysis of the recent changes in social work education in England, and second to support our analysis with documentary evidence in light of our concern that aspects of the social work education cha…

Sintero enables secure information sharing within the patient's named 'circle of care' including family,…
Made in Africa' Versus 'Out of Africa: Comparing South Africa's Non-Leadership with Canada's Leadership in the 1996 Crisis in Eastern Zaire
The response of the international community to the 1996 crisis in Eastern Zaire raises a number of significant questions. This paper looks at the puzzle concerning the nature and degree of direct involvement by outside powers. At a time when 'made in Africa' solutions to crisis situations had begun to generate some impetus, the 'out of Africa' leadership role taken on by Canada stood out as an apparent aberration. Equally, the non-leadership role…
