  • Masculinities, power and change

    Jørgen Lorentzen•ARTICLE•NORMA•2011•Cited by: 4

We have had 25 years of research on men and masculinities. Even if we, who are conducting this research, often say that very little has been done and very few areas of men’s practices have been studied, we have gained some important ground in the understanding of men as gendered beings and the significance of critical reflections concerning masculinities. But at the same time we are still struggling with some key concepts within masculinities – a…

  • On Fathers in Norwegian History 1850-1920

    Open Access•Jørgen Lorentzen•ARTICLE•Men and Masculinities•2011•References: 2

Fathers have been a central part of Norwegian gender equality policy for the last two decades. But what about fathers in Norwegian history? This article is a study on the discourse of fatherhood found within conduct books, letters, autobiographies, journals, and to a certain degree novels and argues that fatherhood was seen as almost as important to the family and the home as the mother in the period 1850-1920 and that the father was split betwee…

  • Programas Europeos de Intervención para Hombres que Ejercen Violencia de Género

Open Access•Heinrich Geldschläger, Stefan Beckmann et al.•ARTICLE•Psychosocial Intervention•2010

The first intervention programmes for men who perpetrate domestic violence started in Europe about 25 years ago. Until now, little information has been available about the different characteristics of these programmes in different countries of the European Union. The Daphne project “Work with perpetrators of domestic violence in Europe – WWP” had the objective of providing this information and to promote exchange and dialogue between European pro…

  • Love and Intimacy in Men's Lives

    Jørgen Lorentzen•ARTICLE•NORA - Nordic Journal of Feminist…•2007•Cited by: 3

Why is it that the theme men and love has not been an issue within masculinities studies? Further, where should we look if we want to pursue the theme that men and love are not a contradictio in adjecto, but connected? By reading through central texts within the critical study of men, this essay shows that love is glimmering with its absence, except in the history of homosexual love between men. Love seems to be difficult to deal with in studies …

  • Masculinities and the Phenomenology of Men's Orgasms

    Open Access•Jørgen Lorentzen•ARTICLE•Men and Masculinities•2007•Cited by: 3•References: 2

This article looks into the art of male sexuality. Its starting point is the traditional biological focus on male sexuality, which has narrowed the understanding of male sexuality. Through readings of authors such as D. H. Lawrence, Catherine Millet, Susan Bordo, and others, the author seeks to lay out a cultural understanding of sexuality on the basis of positions of masculinity within culture. He also discusses possibilities of a male sexual et…

  • Commentary

    Jørgen Lorentzen•ARTICLE•New Literary History•2006

Commentary:Animalism and Fatherhood Jørgen Lorentzen (bio) Reading Rachel Price's article on The Wild Duck, animalism, and theatricality augmented my understanding of the play and suggested new ideas on the position of the father in Ibsen's drama. However, on another level, it also increased my awareness of the lack of collective circulation of intellectual ideas within critical practice. While universities across Europe are involved in strategie…

  • Ibsen and Fatherhood

    Jørgen Lorentzen•ARTICLE•New Literary History•2006

Fatherhood is a pervasive motif throughout the works of the Norwegian play writer Henrik Ibsen. The article "Ibsen and Fatherhood" is exploring the meaning of fatherhood in Ibsen's works with a special attention to the The Wild Duck. This play present three different forms of fatherhood: the patriarchal father, the fallen father, and the loving, but helpless father. They are significant forms of fatherhood in Ibsen's drama that correspond to actu…
