  • From Theory to Practice: General Trends in Foreign Language Teaching Methodology and Their Influence on Language Assessment

Open Access•Christine Campbell, Graeme Duncan et al.•ARTICLE•Language and Linguistics Compass•2007

In the late 1970s, language‐learning theorists redefined ability in a second or foreign language, emphasizing its communicative aspects. The proficient linguist was one who could function effectively in the four skills of speaking, writing, reading comprehension, and listening comprehension in real‐life, not contrived or artificial, contexts. This new paradigm led to change in language‐teaching methodology; communicative language teaching became …

Peggy Mcdonough, David R Williams et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Health and Social…•1999•Cited by: 42

Despite considerable evidence documenting a strong and persistent relationship between socioeconomic position and mortality, recent research suggests that this association may be weaker among women. Greg J Duncan, Graeme Duncan et al.•ARTICLE•Child Development•1994•Cited by: 628•References: 7

We consider 3 questions regarding the effects of economic deprivation on child development. First, how are developmental outcomes in childhood affected by poverty and such poverty correlates as single parenthood, ethnicity, and maternal education? Second, what are the developmental consequences of the duration and timing of family economic deprivation? And, third, what is the comparative influence of economic deprivation at the family and neighbo…

  • On going to a chair

    Graeme Duncan•ARTICLE•Politics•1970

Moving from Monash to Adelaide University was like shifting to a new culture —from a new and rapidly expanding institution with a large Politics Department and a radical mystique to an old, slowly moving university with a mere handful of Politics teachers.
