Multifactorial determinants of health status
Background Non-communicable diseases are a growing public health challenge, shaped not only by biological predispositions but also by geo-demographic, socioeconomic, psychological, and lifestyle factors. A comprehensive understanding of these determinants is essential for developing targeted public health strategies. This study aimed to examine the multifactorial determinants of individual health status by analyzing geo-demographic, socio-economi…
Protecting women's health in sport
Background: The metabolic and physiological risks of the Female Athlete Triad and Relative Energy Deficiency in Sport (RED-S) remain widely under-recognized in athletic populations. Low Energy Availability (LEA), often driven by disordered eating (DE) and eating disorders (EDs), serves as the primary driver of multi-systemic impairments. Materials and methods: This narrative review synthesizes evidence from 151 studies identified via the Scopus d…
The impact of time-restricted feeding on energy and macronutrient intake among elite Jordanian football players
TRF did not significantly improve energy or macronutrient intake compared to the standard diet. Both groups exhibited persistent energy and carbohydrate deficits and inadequate vitamin D and K intake, highlighting the need for structured nutrition support regardless of feeding pattern
Evaluation of research group visibility, governance, and engagement in the top 500 global universities
Introduction This exploratory quantitative study examines how the visibility of Research Groups (RGs) is structured, supported, and applied across the QS Top 500 universities (2026), reflecting a global shift toward research groups that serve society rather than solely academic prestige. Methods The analysis investigates the presence of formal governance frameworks, dedicated resources, visibility, interdisciplinary and international collaboratio…
Regional variations in Mediterranean diet adherence
Introduction: The Mediterranean diet (MedDiet) is acknowledged for its health advantages; however, compliance with its principles differs by region and is influenced by geographical, cultural, economic, and life-style factors. This research examines regional differences in sociodemographic and lifestyle factors between Mediterranean (MC) and non-Mediterranean (NMC) countries, with a particular focus on adherence to the Mediterranean diet and life…
Body composition and anaerobic power
Background Body composition monitoring is vital to improve functional performance outcomes such as power output and fatigue resistance in athletes. Objective To assess the correlation between body composition parameters (body fat percentage, percentage of muscle mass, and visceral fat VF) and anaerobic performance measures, specifically relative peak power (RPP) and fatigue index (FIWAnT), in male athletes. Along with exploring the potential infl…
Hormonal, antioxidant, and body composition differences in national level male athletes
Background Competitive athletes exhibit distinct physiological adaptations depending on their sport type and training techniques. These variations influence body composition, hunger-regulating hormones, and antioxidant defense mechanisms, which collectively impact performance, recovery, and progression. This study aimed to compare body composition, serum levels of ghrelin, leptin, and glutathione (GSH), and their interrelationships in national le…
Reliability generalization meta-analysis of the internal consistency and test-retest reliability of the Body Awareness Questionnaire
The Body Awareness Questionnaire (BAQ) measures attentiveness to normal body processes and is widely used with both healthy and patient samples. Meta-analysis of 10 articles involving 15 studies (4078 participants) examined BAQ reliability. Random-effects models pooled Cronbach's alpha and test-retest coefficients. Heterogeneity was assessed via I 2 statistic; publication bias via funnel plots, Egger's and Begg's tests, and trim-and-fill method. …
Translating and validating the Ghosting Questionnaire into Arabic
The successful translation and validation of the GHOST into Arabic provide researchers with a reliable tool for investigating ghosting behavior within Arab societies. Future research endeavors can build upon these findings to explore the psychological implications of ghosting. Researchers can now also develop culturally sensitive understanding of online dating and related practices in Arab communities
A multicountry study on the psychometric properties of the Arabic version of the Sleep Preoccupation Scale (SPS) using both classical testing theory and item response theory
The Arabic version of the SPS demonstrated good psychometric properties and validity, supporting its use for assessing sleep preoccupation among Arabic speakers. This culturally-adapted version enhances sleep assessment capabilities for improving insomnia understanding and treatment within Arabic-speaking populations
The Preventable Effect of Taekwondo Sport among Cadets and Junior’ Bone Mineral Density
Athletes competing in Taekwondo (TKD), the weight-category sport, tend to rapidly lose weight to achieve the desired body weight for better competitive results. Little is known about the effect of rapid weight reduction on bone mass density (BMD), especially during childhood and adolescence. The current study aimed to investigate the impact of rapid weight loss on BMD among cadets and juniors TKD athletes. A descriptive case series study design w…
