Black sexual minority men (BSMM) continue to bear a disproportionate burden of HIV in the United States, with the highest incidence and prevalence in the southern region of the country. In Texas, BSMM living with HIV (BSMM+) have the lowest rates of viral suppression of all SMM and have lower antiretroviral treatment (ART) adherence than white and Hispanic SMM. Long-acting injectable ART (LAI-ART) can potentially overcome several barriers to dail…

    Open Access•Stephen D Ramos, Steve N Du Boi et al.•ARTICLE•Sociological Inquiry•2024•Cited by: 1•References: 1

Full-service sex workers (FSSWs) are at heightened risk of contracting HIV due to facing multi-level challenges to sexual health. This study investigated factors associated with willingness to use Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis (PrEP)-a daily HIV preventative medication, among FSSWs. Using social-ecological theory, an online survey was developed with initial guidance from a local sex worker advocacy organization to assess barriers and facilitators to P…

Background: African American individuals living with HIV (AALWH) and serious mental illness (SMI) represent a vulnerable intersectional group with relatively poor health. These individuals may require consistent treatment engagement to manage both of their chronic conditions; however, due to multilevel factors they are relatively less likely to engage in treatment consistently

  • Engaging African Americans Living with HIV and Serious Mental Illness: Piloting Prepare2Thrive—A Peer-Led Intervention

Arryn A Guy, Steve N Du Boi et al.•ARTICLE•Progress in community health…•2020

This study provides initial evidence for the feasibility of a CBPR-designed and tested, peer-led psychoeducation and behavioral intervention aiming to improve treatment engagement among AALWH and SMI, a marginalized group who could benefit from additional communitybased health research efforts

  • Facilitators and Barriers to Pre-Exposure Prophylaxis Uptake Willingness for Full-Service Sex Workers: A Social-Ecological Approach
