Hydrophobic protection and consolidation of porous stone
This study compares multifunction and multilayer conservation treatments designed to couple both hydrophobic and consolidation effects in porous stones, having in common ethyl-silicate based products. The practical difference lies in how the products are applied and where their effects concentrate. Multifunction treatments result from the application of products that co-deposit a consolidant and a hydrophobic agent in a single deep-penetrating st…

Thermal Adaptations in Indian Houses
This study investigates how the residents in Tiruchirapalli, India adapt to extreme summer temperatures within residential buildings, focusing on the hottest hours of the day. The research aims to understand adaptive behaviors to reduce dependence on mechanical heating and cooling systems, emphasizing the importance of innovative building designs
Study of an Iron Age Gilded Silver Earring by XRF, SEM-EDS and Multifocus OM
The use of gold for artefact productions underwent substantial developments during Iron Age in western Europe, with the diversification of alloy compositions and the introduction of new technologies and aesthetics. This work presents a detailed study of a Late Iron Age earring from the western Iberian Peninsula and a discussion taking into consideration the alloys and technologies used at the time. The earring has a complex structure, composed of…

An Overview of Germanic Grisailles through the Stained-Glass Collection at Pena Palace
The lack of studies reporting the characterisation of Germanic grisaille is evident, despite the recent interest of researchers in this glass painting material. This work consists of the first assessment of Germanic grisaille’ chemical composition on a wide chronology (14th–19th centuries), that was only possible through the unique stained-glass collection of King Ferdinand II of Portugal. From the considerable amount of panels produced in German…
Ability of novel consolidants to improve cohesion of carbonate stones
This work aims at investigating and comparing the ability of novel products to act as consolidants for carbonate stones and how the lithotype and testing conditions influence the perception of their initial efficacy. Novel consolidants based in alkoxysilanes and ammonium phosphate can penetrate deeply, and have initial efficacy on porous limestone in a pre-collapse condition and on marble in granular disintegration, when applied by brushing until…
O padroado da Ordem de Cristo e as elites do Brasil setecentista
This article analyzes the process undertaken in the provision of benefices (cathedrals’ prebends and vicariates) belonging to the patronage of the Order of Christ in south central Portuguese America during the royalist context, in the second half of the 18th century. The objective is to examine the political and social meanings that access to the beneficial network of the Order of Christ provided. The analysis presumes that the monarchy awarded t…
Skeletal maturity and socio-economic status in Portuguese children and youths
The data suggests population variation in TW2 estimates of skeletal maturation. Skeletal maturity was not related to SES in youths from Madeira
