  • Geopower: On the states of nature of late capitalism

    Open Access•Federico Luisetti•ARTICLE•European Journal of Social Theory•2019•Cited by: 6•References: 58

The article argues that environmental planetary discourses have coalesced into the Anthropocene crisis narrative and reformulated the state of nature apparatus of Western political theory. The Anthropocene, as an ecological state of nature of late capitalism, casts light on the logics of geopower, which assembles species thinking, a fascination with nonlife and sovereignty, and the imaginary of extinction and mutation. Geopower shifts governmenta…

  • Notes on the Biopolitical State of Nature

    Open Access•Federico Luisetti•ARTICLE•Paragraph•2016•Cited by: 1

Foucault's notion of biopower and his reflections on barbarism and savagery in ‘Society Must Be Defended’ are part of Western philosophy's theorization of the state of nature. In order to show the implications of this epistemic constellation, the article concentrates on the semantic history of primitivism, providing an alternative genealogy for the biopolitical paradigm and ‘Italian Theory's’ engagement with life and nature. From this perspective…

  • The Anomie of the Earth: Philosophy, Politics, and Autonomy in Europe and the Americas

Open Access•Federico Luisetti, John Pickles et al.•BOOK•Anomie of the Earth•2015

The contributors to The Anomie of the Earth explore the convergences and resonances between Autonomist Marxism and decolonial thinking. In discussing and rejecting Carl Schmitt's formulation of the nomos—a conceptualization of world order based on the Western tenets of law and property—the authors question the assumption of universal political subjects and look towards politics of the commons divorced from European notions of sovereignty. They co…

  • The Kantian Sleep: On the Limits of the “Foucault Effect”

    Open Access•Federico Luisetti•ARTICLE•Revista de Estudios Sociales•2012

This paper analyzes the connection, established by Michel Foucault in The Order of Things, between the appearance of “man” as an anthropological presupposition of scientific and philosophical discourses, and the construction of a transcendental dispositif of thought. In accordance with this presupposition, the notion of life is conceived by Foucault as a by-product of Kantian modernity and inscribed within a Heideggerian ontotheology. By stressin…

  • The Nature of the Common

    Open Access•Federico Luisetti•ARTICLE•Rethinking Marxism•2010•References: 2

This commentary discusses essays by Deborah Jenson and by Antonio Callari and David Ruccio as instances of a “naturalistic” political ontology of the common. It then elaborates on the main features of this topological displacement of Marxism: a nonhumanistic conception of nature and technicity, a constructivism of relations that moves beyond the opposition of economism and aestheticism
