  • Unravelling the relation between well-being and mobility in later life: An ecological momentary assessment approach

Open Access•Louise Meijering, Naomi Bader et al.•ARTICLE•Wellbeing Space and Society•2026

Ecological Momentary Assessment (EMA) is suitable to study mobility and well-being • Intra-individual variation in mobility and well-being exceeds inter-individual variation • Older adults who are more mobile report higher levels of well-being • Mobility is of special benefit to older adults with the lowest levels of well-being • Intra-individual variation in the relation between mobility and well-being is large Mobility in later life is importan…

  • Regional Disparities in Life Expectancy in the Netherlands and the Role of Internal Migration

    Open Access•Maximilian Frentz‐Göllnitz, Adrien Remund et al.•ARTICLE•Population Space and Place•2025•References: 11

Whereas longevity differences between movers and stayers are well‐known, the impact of migration on regional disparities in longevity remains understudied. We estimated the contribution of internal migration to regional life expectancy levels and disparities across the Netherlands, thereby assessing the importance of different age groups. We used mortality and demographic data by internal migrant status, COROP (NUTS‐3) region, age and sex from th…

  • Expectations' predictive power regarding international return and onward migration of immigrants

    Open Access•Özge Elif Özer, Adrien Remund et al.•ARTICLE•Demographic Research•2025•Cited by: 1•References: 9

BACKGROUNDMigration expectations and behaviour are almost exclusively analysed separately in the international migration literature, while the predictive power of migration expectations for migration behaviour has received little attention. OBJECTIVEWe explore the association between migration expectations and actual emigration, distinguishing between return, onward, and back-and-forth movements, for immigrants in the Netherlands. METHODSDrawing …

  • Contributions of causes of death to differentials in life expectancy by internal migrant status in the Netherlands. A population register based study, 2015–2019

    Open Access•Maximilian Frentz‐Göllnitz, Adrien Remund et al.•ARTICLE•SSM - Population Health•2024

Important health differences exist in the context of international migration and residential mobility. Less is known about health differences regarding the medium-distance level of internal migration. This study examines life expectancy gaps between internal movers and stayers in the Netherlands and their underlying processes by assessing the contribution of different causes of death by age and sex. It uses individually-linked death counts and po…

  • Back for good? Return aspirations of immigrants in the Netherlands

Open Access•Özge Elif Özer, Adrien Remund et al.•ARTICLE•International Migration•2024•References: 12

Return migration is a complex process increasingly discussed in academic and policy circles. This study calls on complementary concepts and theories of migration, such as transnationalism, integration and family ties, to explore the return migration aspirations of first‐generation immigrants in the Netherlands. It aims to examine to what extent an immigrant's contacts with their origin country, proximity to the host country and family location in…

  • Geneva. An Urban Sociodemographic Database

Open Access•Michel Oris, Olivier Perroux et al.•ARTICLE•Historical Life Course Studies•2023

The Geneva databases are a data resource covering the period 1800–1880 for the city of Geneva, and occasionally the canton of Geneva. The research team adopted an alphabetical sampling approach, collecting data on individuals whose surname begins with the letter B. The individuals and households belonging to this sample in six population censuses between 1816 and 1843 were digitised and linked. A second database collected marriage and divorce rec…

  • Childbearing Trajectories in a West African Setting: A Sequence Analysis Approach

Open Access•H Bras, Adrien Remund et al.•ARTICLE•Demography•2023•Cited by: 2•References: 64

The lagging fertility transition in West Africa has important repercussions for global population growth but remains poorly understood. Inspired by Caldwell and colleagues' fertility transition framework, as well as by subsequent research, we examine diversity in women's holistic childbearing trajectories in Niakhar, Senegal, between the early 1960s and 2018 using a sequence analysis approach. We evaluate the prevalence of different trajectories,…

  • A Cause-of-Death Decomposition of Young Adult Excess Mortality

Open Access•Adrien Remund, Carlo Giovanni Camarda et al.•ARTICLE•Demography•2018•Cited by: 14•References: 37

We propose a method to decompose the young adult mortality hump by cause of death. This method is based on a flexible shape decomposition of mortality rates that separates cause-of-death contributions to the hump from senescent mortality. We apply the method to U.S. males and females from 1959 to 2015. Results show divergence between time trends of hump and observed deaths, both for all-cause and cause-specific mortality. The study of the hump sh…

  • La surmortalité des jeunes adultes en Suisse: Quel Rôle Joue La Vulnérabilité Socioéconomique

    Open Access•Adrien Remund•ARTICLE•Population•2018•Cited by: 3•References: 41
