  • Paving the Way to Neoliberalism

    Lev Grinberg, Л М Гринберг•BOOK•Neoliberalism as a State Project•2017

The chapter adopts a historical and sociological perspective and institutional political economy to explain the inability of the Zionist labor movement to adapt to democratic conditions following Israeli sovereignty. In the 1970s and early 1980s the Histadrut (peak association of labor) and large private employers formed a distributional coalition against the state which eroded its autonomy and contributed to economic crisis. A Historical Perspective on Israeli Democracy and the 2006 Elections If the 2006 election campaign seems to have left voters cold or indifferent, it is because they know very well that Israeli political parties are not the only ones making the decisions that will influence their fate: The Palestinians, neighboring countries, the United States, and even the European Union and the UN must be taken into account. A democratic elect…

  • A Historical Slip of the Tongue, or What Can the Arab–jewish Transportation Strike Teach Us About the Israeli–palestinian Conflict

Open Access•Lev Grinberg, Lev Luis Grinberg•ARTICLE•International Journal Middle East…•2003•References: 1

Psychologists attribute great significance to slips of the tongue. In such moments, the train of normal speech is interrupted by a word that seems to be out of context. Yet analysts say that this interruption actually betrays an inner truth hidden, consciously or not, behind the screen of “normal” speech. I suggest here that the 1931 Arab–Jewish transportation strike against the Mandatory government in Palestine can be seen as a historical slip o…
