  • Measuring and Testing Multivariate Spatial Autocorrelation in a Weighted Setting

    Open Access•François Bavaud•ARTICLE•Geographical Analysis•2024

We propose and illustrate a general framework in which spatial autocorrelation is measured by the Frobenius product of two kernels, a feature kernel and a spatial kernel. The resulting autocorrelation index generalizes Moran's index in the weighted, multivariate setting, where regions, differing in importance, are characterized by multivariate features. Spatial kernels can traditionally be obtained from a matrix of spatial weights, or directly fr…

  • Uses and practices of digital services in a situation of mobility

Open Access•Marie Delaplace, Leïla Kebir et al.•ARTICLE•European Planning Studies•2022

The ongoing digital revolution is transforming economic production systems as well as our daily lives. If the expectancies in terms of innovation and opportunities are very high on the supply side, little is known about the effective uses of digital tools by customers and the impact on them and their consumption patterns, especially in a situation of mobility. Tourism for example has been tremendously impacted by the digital transformation. It ha…

  • The Endogenous Analysis of Flows, with Applications to Migrations, Social Mobility and Opinion Shifts

    François Bavaud•ARTICLE•Journal of Mathematical Sociology•2008•References: 6

Two major traditions coexist in the statistical analysis of spatial and social change: mobility analysis (e.g., Boudon, 1973 Boudon , R. ( 1973 ). Mathematical Structures of Social Mobility , Amsterdam : Elsevier . [Google Scholar]) initiated by Prais (1953) on one hand, and gravity modelling for geographic flows (e.g., Fotheringham and O'Kelly, 1989 Fotheringham , A. S. & O'Kelly , M. E. ( 1989 ). Spatial Interaction Models: Formulations and App…

  • The Quasi-Symmetric Side of Gravity Modelling

    Open Access•François Bavaud•ARTICLE•Environment and Planning A…•2002•References: 21

Many properties of gravity models are sole consequences of the quasi-symmetry condition or its avatars. We investigate here quasi-symmetry per se, in contrast to geographical tradition, which has been more focused on the exogenous socioeconomic and spatial conditions. In particular, the 'size - utility - accessibility' parameterization of migration counts turn out to rely exclusively upon the quasi-symmetry of flows. Various facets of quasi-symme…
