Open Access•Christine Gervais, Andréanne Pomerleau et al.•ARTICLE•Childhood•2026•References: 55

This article explores how children who have recently immigrated to Québec, Canada, represent the family. Using the child-centered approach, this qualitative study is based on semi-structured interviews with 43 immigrant children aged 6 to 14 years. The results reveal that children represent the family according to the different functions it plays in their lives, that is, to provide them with security, protection and support, and that their defini…

    Open Access•J T Snow, Jennifer M Kilty et al.•ARTICLE•Studies in Social Justice•2024

Social justice activism can be an emotional enterprise. While many people become involved due to feelings of anger and frustration about a particular unjust socio-political issue, we contend that these feelings exist in tandem with those of love and care for others (or for a specific community of belonging) and that it is this combination of emotions that helps sustain the desire to work toward positive or transformative social change. We mobiliz…

Immigration is a major life experience that changes family dynamics and can increase stress and internalizing symptoms in some children. Very few studies have documented these changes using the perspectives of children themselves.
