Available But Not Accessible: An Examination of the Use of Workplace Policies for Caregivers of Elderly Kin
This article investigates the extent to which existing workplaces assist women to balance employment and elder care responsibilities. Two sources of data are used in this article. Interview data of 246 women who are caregivers to elderly kin and who work in 37 workplaces in Nova Scotia, Canada are analyzed to obtain the employee's perception of elder care policy. The Contribution of Long Term Economic Costs to Predicting Strain Among Employed Women Caregivers
Using a feminist perspective as a guiding framework, this paper investigates the relative contributions of employment, caregiving, and economic factors in predicting levels of strain for employed women caregivers. Hierarchical regression analyses indicate that, in addition to variables describing the caregiving situation, the consequences of economic variables significantly contribute to caregiver strain.
