  • Stories of circulations in the Himalayas

Open Access•Stéphane Gros, Jagannath Adhikari et al.•ARTICLE•European Bulletin of Himalayan…•2022

Introduction There are many ways to travel. People of the Himalayas often travel out of necessity rather than for leisure: on foot, as in the past, but now increasingly by motorised means. Their motivations can be diverse and the distances covered change according to the mode of travel. The Himalayan mountains still impose constraints that new infrastructure can only partially overcome. The Himalayan range – despite its high peaks, the tumultuous…

    Open Access•P Ramirez•ARTICLE•Moussons•2022

  • Conversions, population movements and ethno-cultural landscape in the Assam–Meghalaya borderlands

    P Ramirez•ARTICLE•Asian Ethnicity•2016•Cited by: 1•References: 5

In Northeast India, ethnic and religious conversions may be intimately associated. In the Assam–Meghalaya borderlands, conversions to Christianity throughout the twentieth century introduced a new factor in the interplay of spatial movements and cultural mutations, without fundamentally disrupting its basic principles. It is these complex dynamics that are described in this article through the history of three localities. Epidemics, religious con…

  • Politico-ritual variations on the Assamese Fringes: Do social systems exist?

    P Ramirez•CHAPTER•Social dynamics in the highlands…•2007

in the final publication] For its vast cultural diversity and the multiple interactions among its human groups, Northeast India, i.e. Assam and its adjoining areas, may be described as a paradise for the anthropologist. For the same reasons, however, when interpretations and hypotheses have to be considered, when some "order " has to be envisioned, paradise may turn into a hell. The discrepancies between ethnic labels, social patterns and cultura…

  • Pour une anthropologie religieuse du maoïsme népalais / For a Religious Anthropology of Maoism in Nepal
