Development of a novel postnatal neurobehavioral scale for evaluation of common marmoset monkeys
Common marmoset (Callithrix jacchus) monkeys when compared to rhesus macaques (Macaca mullatta) present several advantages for disease modeling, especially transgenic initiatives, as they commonly give birth to twins, which increases sample size, have accelerated development and a shorter life span that facilitates the analysis of the onset of age-related diseases. Yet, no tools are currently available to assess marmoset neurodevelopment during t…
The Oneness Beliefs Scale: Connecting Spirituality with Pro-Environmental Behavior
The inherent unity of all phenomena, or oneness, is a central concept of mysticism, but there have heretofore been no measures of oneness beliefs. We developed the Oneness Beliefs Scale, with spiritual and physical oneness subscales. The spiritual oneness subscale fills a need in the field for a short, reliable measure of spirituality not characterized by the language of traditional Western religiousness. The physical oneness subscale allows rese…

The logic of interpreting evidence of developmental ordering: Strong inference and categorical measures
Developmental ordering is a fundamental prediction of developmental theories and a central issue in developmental research. However, logically sound evidence of developmental ordering is difficult to obtain. This article analyzes the logical basis of testing developmental order hypotheses with categorical measures.Depending on whether saltatory (i.e., discrete) or continuous developmental changes are being assessed, the observed relationship betwee…
On the documentation of statistical analyses in the "clicky-box" era
I emphasized differences simply to point to the need for testing different populations and to stress that i f psychologists have erred in their practice, it has been in the direction of ignoring other populations and cross-validation. Finally, theoretical conservatism as defined by Guyll and Madon (2000) may be beneficial in certain ways. It provides a solid framework by which to judge research and prevents scientists from adopting theories based…
The developmental role of intuitive principles in choosing mathematical strategies
This study investigated the relation between the development of understanding principles that govern a problem and the development ofmathematical strategies used to solve it. College students and 2nd, 5th, 8th, and I lth graders predicted the resulting temperature when 2 containers of water were combined. Students first estimated answers to the problems and then solved the problems using math. The pattern of estimated answers provided a measure o…
Psychological Perspectives on Justice: Theory and Applications
Justice, equity, and fairness are central concerns of everyday life, whether we are assessing the fairness of individual acts, social programmes, or institutional policies. This book explores how the distribution of costs and benefits determine our intuition about fairness and why individual behaviour sometimes deviates from normative theories of justice. To make any comparison, one must first state how fair distributions of resources or burdens …
Laboratory assessment of temperament and environmental enrichment in rhesus monkey infants ( Macaca mulatta )
This study investigated the combined effects of early temperamental characteristics and environmental enrichment on a variety of developmental measures in nursery‐reared rhesus monkey infants. Twenty‐three infants, reared in either standard laboratory cages or enriched environments, were tested during the 1st month of life for interactive, motor, and temperamental capabilities and characteristics. At 8 months of age, all subjects were assessed on…
