Covenantal Pluralism in the Era of HIV and Aids in Zambia
Although different religions in Zambia have peacefully co-existed, the Zambian religious pluralistic society has hardly been related to notions of covenantal pluralism. Using the work of the Zambia Interfaith Networking Group (ZINGO), a multi-faith organization working around HIV and AIDS and other developmental issues in Zambia, this essay reflects on the reality of co-existing peacefully amid diversity through multi-faith collaborations address…
Earth, gender and food security
This article explores the interconnectedness of the earth, gender and food security in the Zambian context using the narrative of Maria Zaloumis (a female Zambian farmer) in the public sphere. It draws on a narrative research design by the restorying of Maria’s trajectory in Agric-business as informed by the African ecofeminist theory. The study shows that Maria was described as an emerging young farmer and an emblem of female entrepreneurship. H…

Representations of Roman Catholic religious sisters’ responses to Covid-19 in the Zambian media
Despite the growing visibility of religious women’s responses to COVID-19 in the media, the discourses of religion and the pandemic in emerging scholarship were preoccupied with the responses of churches to COVID-19, and neglected the contributions of religious women to the pandemic in Zambia. This article, therefore, explores the interface between religion and COVID-19 through the representations of the responses of Roman Catholic religious sist…
Media Representations of Local Muslim Associations’ Acts of Charity in Zambia’s Multi-Religious but Christian-Dominated Context since the 2010s
Using media representations, this article explores how the media presents Islamic charity in a multi-religious but Christian-dominated context of Zambia. It shows that representations of local Muslim associations’ acts of charity ranged from rendering support to the vulnerable (in the form of donations of assorted items to communities, schools, hospitals and prisons), to undertaking community development programmes, to building and renovating inf…
Of Jamesons and Satanists
On October 28, 2014, the President of the Republic of Zambia and leader of the Patriotic Front (PF) party, Michael Sata died in a London hospital one year before finishing his first term of office. The Zambian Constitution stipulates that within ninety days, a by-election must be held to choose a new president. Thus, in January 2015, the by-election was held and Mr. Edgar Chagwa Lungu of the PF emerged victorious by narrowly defeating Mr. Hakaind…
