Rediscovery and stratigraphic calibration of the classic Nihewan Fauna, Hebei Province, China
The classic Nihewan Fauna, as the representative of early Pleistocene Asian Land Mammal Age Nihewanian, has long been cited for bio- and chronostratigraphic correlation. However, its precise provenance and stratigraphic horizon have remained unsolved till now. The authors successfully extracted the vital information by rediscovering 30 of the original excavation localities. The fossils were catalogued with their provenance through an extensive fi…
The palaeoenvironment of the middle Miocene pliopithecid locality in Damiao, Inner Mongolia, China
Holocene climate and landscape evolution East of the Pechora Delta, East-European Russian Arctic
This study presents a multiproxy record of Holocene environmental change in the region East of the Pechora Delta. A peat plateau profile (Ortino II) is analyzed for plant macrofossils, sediment type, loss on ignition, and radiocarbon dating. A paleosol profile (Ortino III) is described and radiocarbon dated. A previously published peat plateau profile (Ortino I) was analyzed for pollen and conifer stomata, loss on ignition, and radiocarbon dating…
Holocene pollen stratigraphy indicating climatic and tree-line changes derived from a peat section at Ortino, in the Pechora lowland, northern Russia
This study presents the results of pollen analysis and radiocarbon dates of a peat section from Ortino, in the Pechora lowland in northern Russia. A pollen stratigraphy is provided for at least the last 9200 years and it provides a basis for the reconstruction of the vegetational and mire history in the northernmost part of European Russia. Conifer stomata content was recorded as a complement to pollen studies to achieve a better resolution of tr…
