  • In the name, she lives on

    Open Access•Eva C Kwakman, Marco Te Brömmelstroet et al.•ARTICLE•Mobilities•2025•Cited by: 1•References: 34

Motor vehicle crashes form a global, though unequally distributed, violence that has killed more people than World War II. Yet, dominant discourses in politics, industry, and media render invisible this violence itself and its political roots in the social and material reconstruction of space in favor of speed, efficiency, and, predominantly, automobility. The narratives of people impacted by vehicular violence remain unstudied, however. Crash su…

  • The efficacy of psychological interventions for posttraumatic stress disorder symptoms in incarcerated forensic populations

Anjo van der Ploeg, Sophie A Rameckers et al.•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2024

A few studies suggest that PTSD treatment may improve symptoms in incarcerated forensic populations, at least temporarily. Follow-up data are still too scarce to draw conclusions about long-term outcomes. Findings of this study indicate that methodologically rigorous outcome research in these populations is needed, with a specific focus on first-line PTSD treatments, long-term efficacy, measurement of recidivism, as well as addressing comorbid co…

  • Effects of refugee settlement on citizens

    Open Access•Allard R Feddes, Hannah J Arjangi-Babetti et al.•ARTICLE•Group Processes & Intergroup…•2024•Cited by: 1•References: 8

The present study prospectively examines associations between citizens’ perceived symbolic and realistic threat and mental health before and after refugee settlement in their neighbourhood. Citizens in two Amsterdam (the Netherlands) neighbourhoods participated in the study ( N = 280). A follow-up measurement after the settlement of refugees was conducted in one neighbourhood ( n = 66). Cross-sectional results confirm that higher levels of percei…

  • Traumatic events and trauma-related psychopathology in former drug cartel soldiers in Rio de Janeiro

    Lisa S Bojahr, Arnold A P Van Emmerik•ARTICLE•Psychological Trauma Theory…•2015

This pilot study investigated the occurrence of traumatic events and trauma-related psychopathology in former drug cartel soldiers (FDCS) in Rio de Janeiro. Furthermore, the authors examined the relationship between the number of traumatic events and symptom severity, and compared symptom severity in perpetrators versus victims of traumatic events. They found high exposure rates to traumatic events, with 83.5% of the FDCS (n = 97) and 57.9% of th…
