  • Income distribution and cultural participation

Open Access•Roberto Cellini, Tiziana Cuccia•ARTICLE•Journal of Cultural Economics•2026

This paper investigates the relationship between income distribution and cultural participation, using regional data from Italy spanning the period 2011–2022. Unlike traditional studies that emphasize individual factors such as personal income and education as determinants of cultural consumption, we interpret cultural participation as a social behaviour influenced by income distribution. Our findings reveal a robust significant negative effect o…

  • Economic incentives for tourists

    Open Access•Roberto Cellini, Tiziana Cuccia•ARTICLE•Tourism Economics•2024

This Note examines the effectiveness of a regional policy centered around offering discounted vouchers to tourists. It specifically studies the case of Sicily, which, unlike other Italian regions, implemented this policy between 2021 and 2023 in response to the aftermath of the COVID-19 shock. Difference-in-differences estimates reveal that this intervention has failed to significantly affect tourism

  • The gender bias in regional councilors’ reelection in Italy

    Open Access•Roberto Cellini, Tiziana Cuccia•ARTICLE•Economia Politica•2024•References: 11

This study evaluates whether a gender bias exists in the reelection of regional councilors in Italy. A dataset of 4794 councilors elected since 1985 is considered; 597 (i.e., 12.45%) among them are women. The determinants of the reelection are analyzed. A significant gender bias in reelection emerges, even after controlling for several individual and institutional factors. The gender bias in reelection is stable over time, similar across differen…

  • Unesco Sites as Public Goods

    Open Access•Roberto Cellini, Tiziana Cuccia•ARTICLE•Revista de Economia Contemporânea•2016•Cited by: 1•References: 14

The inclusion of a site in the UNESCO World Heritage List is a "recognition" that can be interpreted as alocal public good. This paper analyzes the effectiveness of the UNESCO recognition in promoting tourism and, more generally, local economic development. We document relevant performance differences across Italian UNESCO sites. We argue that the relevant key factor is the ability of generating additional public goods, starting from the process …

  • Regional Resilience in Italy

    Roberto Cellini, Gianpiero Torrisi•ARTICLE•Regional Studies•2014•Cited by: 27•References: 3

Cellini R. and Torrisi G. Regional resilience in Italy: a very long-run analysis, Regional Studies. Resilience is a concept referring to the manner in which systems react to, and recover from, shocks. According to several recent analyses ‘resilience’ can explain different regional economic performances. However, this study indicates that this explanation is quite unconvincing when applied to the Italian regions in the very long run (1890–2009). O…

  • Workers' Enterprises and the Taste for Production

    Open Access•Tiziana Cuccia, Roberto Cellini•ARTICLE•Scottish Journal of Political…•2009•References: 8

This paper shows that the standard result according to which labour‐managed (LM) firms produce a lower amount of output, as compared with profit‐maximizing firms, is reversed if production per se gives utility and the workers' membership of LM firms is set before market decisions. Under the same hypotheses, the LM firms set a higher product quality than the profit‐oriented ones, ceteris paribus . The considered hypotheses are appropriate in sever…
