Este artigo analisa a atuação da União Africana (UA) em sua primeira missão de paz no continente, realizada no Burundi. Defendemos a hipótese de que suaeficácia está relacionada à estrutura adotada pela entidade, ou seja à transformação da Organização da Unidade Africana para UA, e seu impacto no âmbito securitário. Ademais, buscamos demonstrar que a nova união garantiu uma melhor dinamização na resolução do conflito no Burundi
