  • Covid-19 vaccine hesitancy in the UK: A longitudinal household cross-sectional study

Open Access•Kausik Chaudhuri, Anindita Chakrabarti et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2022

These findings suggests that trust in public sector officials play a key factor in the low vaccination rates particularly seen in at-risk groups. Given the additional morbidity/mortality risk posed by COVID-19 to those from lower socio-economic or ethnic minority backgrounds, there needs to be urgent public health action to review how to tailor health promotion advice given to these groups and examine methods to improve trust in public sector off…

  • A changepoint analysis of UK house price spillovers

    Open Access•Dominik Blatt, Kausik Chaudhuri et al.•ARTICLE•Regional Studies•2022•Cited by: 1•References: 9

We study spillovers between regional housing markets in the UK in the period 1973–2020. The analysis is based on a vector autoregressive model that allows for structural breaks in its parameters at unknown times. In particular, we allow for distinct breakpoints in the conditional mean, variance and correlation parameters, which enables us to distinguish different spillover channels. Based on the resulting piecewise constant model, we compute the …

  • Gender, small firm ownership, and credit access: Some insights from India

Open Access•Kausik Chaudhuri, Subash Sasidharan et al.•ARTICLE•Small Business Economics•2020

Using a comprehensive dataset on micro, small, and medium enterprises in India, we examine whether the gender of the owner matters in firm performance and in credit access from institutional sources. The study finds significant underperformance in the size, growth, and efficiency of firms owned by women when compared to those owned by men. In line with the evidence in the existing literature, our findings also support the view that women-owned fi…

  • The State of Female Autonomy in India: A Stochastic Dominance Approach

Kausik Chaudhuri, Gaston Yalonetzky et al.•ARTICLE•The Journal of Development Studies•2018

The promotion of female autonomy is both intrinsically and instrumentally desirable. We document differences in the distribution of female autonomy in India (using the National Family Health Survey 2005–2006) addressing two methodological challenges: the multidimensional nature of the concept and its frequent measurement with ordinal variables (which are not amenable to direct comparisons of social averages). We tackle these challenges with three…

  • Gender Equality in Fertility Choices in Tamil Nadu: A Myth or a Reality

    Open Access•Anindita Chakrabarti, Kausik Chaudhuri•ARTICLE•Journal of South Asian Development•2011•Cited by: 1•References: 1

The state of Tamil Nadu, located in South India, has been identified as a state with gender equality as is evident from a balanced sex ratio, higher age of marriage of women, lower fertility rates and higher female literacy. Using district level and village/town level data from Census 2001, we examine the role of different socio-economic factors to explain the gender differentials in sex ratio at the age below six years at following levels: 30 di…

  • A New Perspective on Violent Crime Burden Index: Evidence from Indian Districts

  • The political determinants of fiscal policies in the states of India: An empirical investigation

Kausik Chaudhuri, Sugato Dasgupta•ARTICLE•The Journal of Development Studies•2006

Using data from the 14 major states of India, we investigate whether state governments' fiscal policy choices are tempered by political considerations. Our principal findings are twofold. First, we show that certain fiscal policies experience electoral cycles: state governments raise less commodity tax revenue, spend less on the current account, and incur larger capital account developmental expenditures in election years than in all other years.…
