  • Cross sectional study of factors associated to self-reported blood-borne infections among drug users

    Open Access•Juliana Reyes‐Urueña, Juliana Reyes-Urueña et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2015

Among drug users in Catalonia, HIV, HCV and co-infection prevalence are still a big issue especially among IDUs. Women and drug users who have never injected drugs are groups with a significant risk of infection; this might be related to their high-risk behaviours and to being unaware of their serological status

  • Impact of Co-Occurring Psychiatric Disorders on Retention in a Methadone Maintenance Program

Open Access•Mònica Astals, Laura Díaz et al.•ARTICLE•International Journal of…•2009

We assess the influence of co-occurring psychiatric disorders on retention in 189 opioid dependent patients in a methadone maintenance treatment (MMT) and determine the incidence of psychiatric co-morbidity during an 18-month follow-up period. About 68.5 % were retained in the MMT. Neither co-occurring mental disorders (chi-square = 0.303, df = 1, p = 0.622) nor methadone doses [85 (88.9) vs. 79.2 (85) mg/day, p = 0.672] were related to retention…

  • Glossary of terms relating to capture–recapture methods

Tim Millar, Antònia Domingo-Salvany et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Epidemiology and…•2008•References: 16

This glossary provides basic definitions for terms that have a specific meaning in the application of the capture–recapture methodology, particularly with respect to standard techniques for the application of log linear models to multiple lists. In epidemiology, capture–recapture is used for prevalence estimation. It is intended that, as well as being a central point of reference for terms used in the capture–recapture methodology, this glossary …

  • Psychosocial Considerations for the Prevention of HIV Infection in Injecting Drug Users

    Open Access•Pilar Albertín-Carbó, Antònia Domingo-Salvany et al.•ARTICLE•Qualitative Health Research•2001

In this article, the authors discuss a study that investigated the meaning that injecting drug users attribute to risk behaviors linked to HIV transmission, especially through the use of nonsterile syringes or the failure to use condoms. To do this, social discourses with respect to the prevention of HIV infection are evaluated. The discussion focuses on how these discourses affect the daily practices of heroin users, practices that in turn influ…
