Geometric-analytical assessment of the strategic potential of construction companies using qualitative methods
Many years of experience show that in most cases the company’s development strategies, which are an essential condition for their competitiveness, have been unsuccessful. The main reason for this situation is that the possibilities of implementing such strategies have not been properly assessed. This is a difficult task, as it includes both internal and external situations of the company, which are reflected by many indicators. The company’s abil…
Complex quantitative assessment of social research survey results
Research on social problems of various natures is gaining more and more attention. Their primary tool is surveying. Various computer programs have been developed to process and analyse the results. On the other hand, the characteristics they calculate may be used only for specific purposes. Their main drawback is that they must provide a generalized picture of the problem in question, i.e., the whole remains unclear. Without this, analogous objec…
Assessment of the technological efficiency of production and consumption of EU countries in the context of circular economy
The intensive use of non-renewable production resources and the associated growing environmental pollution forces us to look for new methods of halting these negative trends. Circular economy is one such method. This phenomenon is the subject of numerous studies attempting to assess its condition at both the micro and macro levels, the implementation of circular economy strategies, its environmental impact, the context of waste generation, etc. O…
Evaluating the sustained development of socio-economic systems
The conventional approach to assessing the developmental level of any socioeconomic system (SES) is to consider only its state in a given year. However, this approach does not adequately reflect the dynamic and complex nature of SES, which are inherently unstable due to their inertia. In other words, the development indicators at any point in time (year) of the considered period (CP) largely depend on the results of the development that occurred …
Implementation of the work-based learning model in SMEs
Work-based learning models have been applied to varying extent across countries. This raises questions about the factors that determine the feasibility of their implementation in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs). The multifaceted impact of these factors and the indicators reflecting them varies significantly, which makes it necessary to rank them appropriately. This study uses a pairwise comparison of the indicators' importance based on …
Evaluation of the economic development of European Union countries
In the European Union (EU), as a global economic community, there are countries with very different levels of economic development. Therefore, it takes place unevenly – some countries develop intensively, but with significant changes in it, others – stably, without significant changes, but not intensively, etc. In such a situation, it is important to determine adequately the current state of economic development. It is an integral quantity that c…
ICT development and shadow economy
The substantial improvements in development information and communication technologies led many economic and non-economic implications for the countries and in turn motivated the researchers to question the various effects of ICT especially in the light of economic crime. This study explores the short and long run influence of information and communication technologies on the shadow economy in 11 post-transition EU members over 1996-2015 period t…
Evaluation of the condition of social processes based on qualimetric methods
The Covid-19 pandemic mainly affected those target groups who, due to the nature of their duties, were unable to isolate themselves. The consequences of such work are psychological tension with various symptoms. In this situation, the formation of a system for localizing its consequences becomes a very important task. Three parts are distinguished: a quantitative assessment of the scale and nature of the pandemic, a quantitative assessment of the…
The efficiency of municipal waste management systems in the environmental context in the European Union
Performance criteria of non-energy materials hold an important place in the system of indicators of the green growth strategy. Management of generated municipal waste and its effectiveness depend to a large extent on the ratio of the amount of incinerated, recycled or composted waste to the amount taken to landfills. This ratio is tied to the level of economic development of the country. The conducted research revealed several regularities in the…
Assessment of the impact of air pollution on population mortality in EU countries
articulate matter (PM 2.5), ozone, lead and radon are among the main sources of air pollution. The differences in mortality rates across the European Union due to their impact are very high, ranging from 4 to 16 times. Mortality from PM 2.5 particles is excreted 12.3 – fold compared to ozone, 4.6 – fold for lead and 10.6 – fold for radon. The state of economic development of countries and health expenditures have a significant impact on the rate …
Multi-criteria assessment of socioeconomic systems’ conditions based on hierarchically structured indicator systems
The adequacy of multi-criteria assessment largely depends on how comprehensively an indicator system reflects a phenomenon under consideration. If the number of indicators is large, experts cannot adequately evaluate the indicator weights. As a result, the scope of calculations increases significantly, but the accuracy drops. This problem can be solved by forming a hierarchically structured indicator system. Multi-criteria assessment of such syst…
Pro-innovative motives for establishing cooperation by enterprises
The issue of innovation is currently often perceived in the context of inter-organizational cooperation. In literature on this subject one of the ways to win in competition is by seeking synergies resulting from cooperation of companies with other firms, including their competitors, as well as with business environment institutions or research and development entities. The global experience indicates an important role of these ties in generating …
The inter-linkages between financial and economic development in the European Union Countries
The paper has investigated the relationships between financial and economic development in the European Union countries using annual data over the period of 1998–2016. The authors have done this by looking at descriptive statistics and also by applying econometric methods. This study has combined different approaches prevailing in the scientific literature and contributed to understanding the importance of the interrelationship between the variab…
Integrated Assessment of the Socioeconomic Systems’ Development
A permanent property applicable to every socioeconomic system (SES) is its development. SES development is an integrated process with two sides that can be distinguished, i.e. quantitative and qualitative ones. The quantitative side reflects its static aspect, i.e. the state of the development at a certain point in time. The qualitative side of development reflects its dynamics, i.e. the scope of development changes. In order to make an integrate…
Gold Investment Incentives
During the World War I, most of the countries stopped coin production and began converting paper money into gold. Various forms of exchange were later abolished during the "Great Depression" in 1929-1933. Later, gold lost the value of money in most of the economies worldwide. Multiple price rise of gold caused a real rise in the value of gold reserves and their potential ability to cover the balance of payment deficit. At the same time, it shows …

Quantitative assessment of quality management systems’ processes
Based on the particularities of assessment of quality management systems, we have developed an aggregate of dependencies between the singular indicators of process quality and their values, on a dimensionless scale. The application of the aggregate allows a quantitative quality assessment of processes to be obtained and takes into account a diversity of indicators and the significance of processes in the enterprise. The application of the said de…
The strategic assessment of networking of a higher education institution
The development of economy in the region is highly dependent on the effective management of higher education institutions (HEIs). The effective incorporation of networking in the strategies of HEIs is one of the core issues in the development of current HEIs. This incorporation raises two major issues: the lack of tools to monitor the progress of networking and the lack of ability to generate needed and network-related insights for strategy. The …
The Evaluation of Financial Stability and Soundness of Lithuanian Banks
The successful development of economy is based on effective and stable performance of commercial banks. The evaluation of stability and soundness of banks is a complex task, involving a considerable number of multidimensional criteria. It is an idiosyncratic task because of a complicated internal business structure of banks, intertwined cash flows and strong influence of market conditions on soundness levels. In this paper, soundness and stabilit…
