  • The Resurgence of Chinese Exceptionalism Under Xi’s Leadership

    Open Access•Behzad Abdollahpour•ARTICLE•China Report•2024•References: 14

This article examines a historical process of Chinese exceptionalism throughout history. Shedding light on different forms of exceptionalism from imperial China till now, I argue that a new form of exceptionalism appeared under Xi’s administration. Recent studies about this concept seem to dismiss the identity factor and its relations with Chinese exceptionalism. Additionally, the literature on the resurgence of exceptionalism under Xi’s era has …

Open Access•Maziar Mozaffari Falarti, Behzad Abdollahpour•ARTICLE•The World of the Orient•2023

The Islamic Republic of Iran continues to maintain profound economic and political relations with the People’s Republic of China. In the interim since the 1970s China has not only enjoyed diplomatic and economic relations with the US but has become its largest trading partner. Having diplomatic relations with both Washington and Tehran, as well as being a permanent member of the United Nation’s Security Council the government of China has openly …

  • The U.S. Factor in China–Iran Relations

Open Access•Behzad Abdollahpour, Maziar Mozaffari Falarti•ARTICLE•China Quarterly of International…•2023

The China–U.S.–Iran relationship offers an intriguing strategic triangle in which the United States has always loomed large and disproportionately influenced the relationship between the other two actors. Although Tehran and Beijing had a relatively friendly relationship that endured the volatile Cold War era, neither treated the other as a strategic priority in their foreign relations. The Obama administration’s diplomatic overture and the subse…

Since the inception of the Belt Road Initiative (BRI) by the People’s Republic of China (PRC) in 2014, its relations with the United States have entered into a new phase of rivalry and defiance in an eclectic array of political, economic, and security issues and concerns. In examining the BRI factor in US-China relations, this paper juxtaposes the Barak Obama administration’s mild China policy and its cold response toward BRI as well as Donald Tr…

  • What is Iran? Domestic politics and international relations in five musical pieces

    Open Access•Behzad Abdollahpour•ARTICLE•International Affairs•2021

What is Iran? seeks to provide a bold account of the enduring estrangement between Iran and the United States by focusing on the revolutionary roots of Iranian foreign and domestic politics. Arshin Adib-Moghaddam grounds his analysis within a sound description of Iran's internal politics and scrutinizes the existing discourse on Iranian foreign policy through a new approach which he calls ‘discursive musicology’ (p. 17). Discursive musicology fra…
