  • Biography of a Levantine dolmen during the Early Bronze Age: Construction, reuse and memory at Rjile (Kufr Yuba, North Jordan)

    Open Access•Tara Steimer-Herbet, Méryl Defours Rivoira et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Archaeological Science…•2026•References: 33

  • Investigating the Neolithic rubble layers of 'Ain Ghazal, Jordan, using luminescence dating

Open Access•Al Khasawneh, Sahar Al Khasawneh et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeological and Anthropological…•2024•References: 33

  • The Big Circles in Jordan: First absolute ages using rock luminescence surface dating

Open Access•Al Khasawneh, Fawzi Abudanah et al.•ARTICLE•Geoarchaeology•2023•References: 10

In this study, we provide the first absolute ages for a Big Circle megalithic structure in Jordan, using rock surface luminescence dating of the buried surface of rocks collected from circle J4 in southern Jordan. Five rocks were used for this study. All rocks showed evidence of previous daylight exposure before being used in the construction of the circle. The exposure was sufficient to bleach the latent luminescence signal to a negligible level…

  • Luminescence dating of anthropogenic deposits from Tall Zarʿa in the Jordan Valley

Open Access•Al Khasawneh, Katharina Schmidt et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeometry•2023•Cited by: 1•References: 32

This study uses quartz‐based optically stimulated luminescence dating to determine when a massive fortification wall (W11186) was constructed in the archaeological site of Tall Zarʿa in the Jordan Valley. A total of 11 samples of sediments were taken from a trench on the north side of the wall ( extramuros ). The extracted quartz grains had good luminescence characteristics and were identified as well bleached by comparison with feldspar infrared…

  • Age determination of runoff terrace systems in Petra, Jordan, using rock surface luminescence dating

Open Access•Al Khasawneh, Sahar Al Khasawneh et al.•ARTICLE•Archaeological and Anthropological…•2022•Cited by: 4•References: 40

  • Luminescence Dating of the Iron Age Deposits from Tell Damiyah in the Jordan Valley

    Open Access•Al Khasawneh, Andrew S Murray et al.•ARTICLE•Radiocarbon•2020•Cited by: 1•References: 32

In this study, we investigate quartz-based luminescence optical dating of Iron Age deposits at the archaeological site of Tell Damiyah in the Jordan valley. Ten samples, taken from different occupation layers from two different excavation areas, proved to have good luminescence characteristics (fast-component dominated, dose recovery ratio 1.032 ± 0.010, n=24). The optical ages are completely consistent with both available 14 C ages and ages base…

  • Luminescence dating of a transitional Chalcolithic/Bronze Age site in Jordan
