  • Religious Concerns About Covid-19 Vaccines

    Open Access•D Jones•ARTICLE•Journal of Religion and Health•2022

In the midst of the debate about vaccines against COVID-19 and vaccine mandates, there are a surprisingly large number of concerns coming from some churches centring on the dependence of some of the vaccines on historic abortions and limitations of freedom of choice. Although the ethical significance of separation between historic abortions and the vaccines has been widely accepted by most religious authorities, the pandemic has led to renewed co…

  • From undergraduate to postgraduate uses of the dead human body

    D Jones, D Gareth Jones•ARTICLE•Journal of Medical Ethics•2020

The dependence of surgical training programmes on the supply of bodies by for-profit organisations places them at serious ethical risk. These risks, with their commodification of the bodies used in the programme, are outlined. It is concluded that this is not a satisfactory model for the trainees’ subsequent interaction with living patients and that a code of practice is required

  • Understanding and assessing uncertainty of observational climate datasets for model evaluation using ensembles

Open Access•Marius Zumwald, Knsel et al.•ARTICLE•Wiley Interdisciplinary Reviews…•2020

In climate science, observational gridded climate datasets that are based on in situ measurements serve as evidence for scientific claims and they are used to both calibrate and evaluate models. However, datasets only represent selected aspects of the real world, so when they are used for a specific purpose they can be a source of uncertainty. Here, we present a framework for understanding this uncertainty of observational datasets which distingu…

  • Enhancement

    D Jones, D G Jones•ARTICLE•Medical Humanities•2006•Cited by: 4•References: 2

Most commentators draw a sharp distinction between therapy and enhancement, applauding therapy and rejecting enhancement. Not only is this distinction unclear but enhancement is often seen in grandiose terms in which human beings are radically transformed. Such far-reaching visions are then used to reject current procedures such as pre-implantation genetic diagnosis. To overcome this highly problematic impasse, enhancement has been divided into t…

As reporter Eileen Wel-some described, the cold war “spawned an orgy o…

This article raises serious questions about their methodology, assumptions, political agenda and conclusions.

  • Archeological Human Remains

    D Jones, D Gareth Jones et al.•ARTICLE•Current Anthropology•1998•Cited by: 21

Recent developments regarding the repatriation of human skeletal remains have raised questions of profound significance for both archeologists and anthropologists. The various responses to these questions have tended to focus on the implications of these developments for the future of the academic disciplines and skirted the ethical issues at stake. In addition, little attention has been devoted to the relationship between approaches to human ske…
