There is a certain unexplained aura that is associated with the word “postcolonial,” and trying to explain what it means results in the acknowledgment either that it has a growing open‐ended collection of meanings, or that what it means in specific contexts is banal and less complicated than what seems to be the case on the surface, and another term might do just as well.
