RWG: An assessment of within-group interrater agreement.
Schmidt and Hunter (1989) critiqued the within-group interrater reliability statistic (r wg ) described by James, Demaree, and Wolf (1984). Kozlowski and Hattrup (1992) responded to the Schmidt and Hunter critique and argued that r wg is a suitable index of interrater agreement. This article focuses on the interpretation of r wg as a measure of agreement among judges' ratings of a single target. A new derivation of r wg is given that underscores …
Estimating within-group interrater reliability with and without response bias.
This article presents methods for assessing agreement among the judgments made by a single group of judges on a single variable in regard to a single target. For example, the group of judges could be editorial consultants, members of an assessment center, or members of a team. The single target could be a manuscript, a lower-level manager, or a team. The variable on which the target is judged could be overall publishability in the case of the man…
Work Settings and Job Satisfaction: A Study of Primary Care Physicians and Paramedical Personnel
This paper examines job satisfaction of primary care physicians and paramedical personnel in traditional office practices and in modern medical organizations. A series of two-way analyses of variance using work settings and occupational level as independent variables showed consistent effects of setting on job satisfaction. In modern organizational settings satisfaction with the work activity, with coworkers, and with income was lower than in tra…

Correlates of Physicians' Task Delegation in Primary Care
Empirical evidence does not support the claim that task delegation to nonphysicians is greater in large medical organizations than in small office practices. Can the behavior of physicians in these organizations be explained through reference to professional attitudes? This paper reports a study which examined simultaneously two sets of variables as predictors of physicians' delegation behavior: (I) paramedical resources available in the organiza…

Perception of Payoff Structure and Opponent's Behavior in Related Matrix Games
Empirical results indicate to what extent judges recognize similanties between payoff matrices that vary in game theoretic information conditions. Judges failed to note similarities in patterns of payoffs between matrices but did recognize patterns of behavior of an opponent
Acquaintance and Accuracy of Vocal Communication of Emotions
Acquaintance, encoding ability, and decoding ability were related to the accuracy of vocal communication of ten emotions. A sample of twenty-five students served as subjects in a design that measured degrees of acquaintance between communicators. Experimentally measured was the accuracy of communication of emotions using content-free messages. Ability measures were derived from the accuracy measure. Results showed no relationship of accuracy and …
