  • The Interruption of Income Convergence and Income Growth in Large Cities in the 1980s

    Open Access•Matthew P Drennan, Emanuel Tobier et al.•ARTICLE•Urban Studies•1996•Cited by: 12•References: 6

Recent studies have documented the divergence of per capita personal income among regions of the US in the 1980s following many decades of income convergence. This paper establishes the same pattern of divergence for median family income in the 1980s and argues that regional specialisation in producer services contributed to upward divergence of regions with above average income. • Then and Now

    Jonathan F Lewis, Musa Alshtawi•ARTICLE•Teaching Sociology•1992•Cited by: 1

A content analysis of 47 social theory textbooks reveals that certain social theorists are no longer given the coverage they once received. After examining some reasons for the general decline in coverage of many theorists, the continued popularity of Hegel, the decline of interest in Machiavelli and Vico, and the continued slight coverage of Ibn Khaldun, we discuss the impact of both the Cold War and scientific sociology on the content of theory…

  • Of Card Tricks and Charismatic Leaders

    Jonathan F Lewis•ARTICLE•Teaching Sociology•1989

The following lecture sh…

    George H Lewis, Jonathan F Lewis•ARTICLE•British Journal of Sociology•1980•Cited by: 12•References: 1

The overwhelming emphasis in social research on collecting positive data has had the dangerous effect of minimizing the worth of negative evidence, which is defined in this paper as either (1) the nonoccurrence of events, (2) an occurrence that is not reacted to or not reported (because it is outside the frame of reference of the population or of the researcher), or (3) although noted in its raw form, distorted in its interpretation or withheld f…
