Applying feminist principles to social work teaching
It took a global pandemic for me to recognize how my social work teaching was an act of feminist praxis. I have long identified as a feminist and regularly engage efforts to advance equity for women, primarily centered on the abolition of prisons which disproportionately incarcerate Indigenous and Black women in Canada. Using the Parliamentary Communications Allowance, MP David Drew recently conducted a large scale research project into public opinion on the British Constitution. There could not have been a better time to do so. Not only are we in the wake of severe economic and political crises, but also a period of unprecedented legislative interest in the constitution. This study argues that American students are receiving a mediocre education in mathematics and science, especially students from disadvantaged groups - the poor, ethnic minorities and young women. The author challenges the conventional view that only a minority are capable of mastering these subjects, and reviews studies, data and programmes to identify the causes of educational problems, as well as possible solutions. A New Planning Methodology to Assess the Impact of the Health Care System on Health Status
This article summarizes a new methodology recently developed by the Rand Corporation which permits health planners to assess the impact of the local health care system on the health status of the population. The methodology, in algorithm form, should assist health planners in developing objectives and actions related to the occurrence of selected health status indicators and should be amenable to health care interventions.
