The archaeology of gamonalismo and postcolonial contradictions in the Southern Peruvian Andes
In the 19 th -20 th centuries, following Peruvian independence, the postcolonial nation-state saw the formation of the gamonal , a local landlord who exploited indigenous people to perpetuate a servile labor force and appropriate land.
