  • Changes in Australian community perceptions of non-communicable disease prevention: A greater role for government

Open Access•Anne C Grunseit, Anne Grunseit et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2021

Opportunities may exist to implement government health-promoting policies (e.g., taxing soft drinks), although advocacy may be needed to address the concerns of less supportive subpopulations. Attitudes on government intervention in general may be becoming more polarized; future research examining the association of such changes with exposure to different information sources could inform communication strategies for future health policy change

  • Weight change among repeat participants of an Aboriginal community-based weight loss program

    Open Access•Erika Bohn‐Goldbaum, Aaron Cashmore et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2020

While individuals benefit from weight loss through program participation, strengthening strategies for weight loss maintenance within or following the program could improve long-term weight outcomes and reduce weight cycling

  • Acceptability of financial incentives for maintenance of weight loss in mid-older adults: A mixed methods study

    Open Access•Bronwyn Mcgill, Blythe J O’Hara et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2018

If financial incentives are considered for mid-older Australian adults in the health insurance setting, program planners will need to balance the discordance between participant beliefs about the individual responsibility for health and their desire for external supports to motivate and sustain weight loss maintenance

  • Multiple lifestyle behaviours and mortality, findings from a large population-based Norwegian cohort study - The Hunt Study

Open Access•Steinar Krokstad, Ding et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2017

This study adds to previous research on multiple risk behaviours by incorporating emerging risk factors. Findings regarding social participation and prolonged sitting suggest new components of healthy lifestyles and potential new directions for population health interventions

  • Daily Sitting Time and All-Cause Mortality: A Meta-Analysis

    Open Access•Josephine Y Chau, Anne C Grunseit et al.•ARTICLE•PLoS ONE•2013

  • Age, Gender, Social Contacts, and Psychological Distress: Findings From the 45 and Up Study

Open Access•Philayrath Phongsavan, Anne C Grunseit et al.•ARTICLE•Journal of Aging and Health•2013•Cited by: 2•References: 16

Social contacts have age and gender differential effects on psychological distress of mid-older Australian adults. Interventions addressing social interaction need to be sensitive to gender and age differences

  • Tobacco promotion 'below-the-line': Exposure among adolescents and young adults in NSW, Australia

Open Access•Donna A Perez, Donna Perez et al.•ARTICLE•BMC Public Health•2012

This study shows that adolescents and young adults in NSW are exposed to tobacco advertising or promotion at the PoS, on the internet, in entertainment media and at venues such as events or festivals and pubs, clubs, nightclubs or bars, despite the restrictions on the marketing of tobacco in Australia

  • Correlates of physical violence at school: A multilevel analysis of Australian high school students

Open Access•Anne C Grunseit, Anne Grunseit et al.•ARTICLE•Australian Journal of Social Issues•2008•Cited by: 2•References: 39

Studies of school violence have been generally been informed either by social disorganisation or social control theory. However applications of social disorganisation theory to school violence sometimes make little attempt to control for individual differences in propensity to violent behaviour. This study of 2,616 Australian high school students uses multilevel modelling techniques to see whether various characteristics of the school (e.g. lack …
